What do you all think of this match up lads. Its a WBA title eliminator but what does that mean for Macklin if he wins, will he get a super, regular or interim shot?
His opponent had mixed in better company with mixed results and success, Macklin has taken out Asikainen in more convincing fashion but Ive heard Gevor was unlucky not to pick up the W against Sturm. He has also fought Abraham (L KO11) and dropped a decision to Sartirson for a super middlweight world title.
Its a very dangerous fight for Macklin consideing he has a decent world ranking and could have sat on that until a title oppurtunity presented itself. Bif of a pick em!

Gevor has a wicked left hand. Real punisher!

Macklin has his work cut out and Gevor has has mixed in high class and I had him drawing with Sturm (anyone watch that fight?)

Anyway, I was over watching Macklin spar Liverpool southpaw Joe McNally and he looked leaky to a well timed left.

He has a good American coming over tomorrow.

According to the Sun newspaper on twitter macklin has pulled out of this due to contract issues.

Ragin as I'm heading to the McLoskey bill but I hope the rumours of him been offered a shot at a world title are true. Havent heard anything solid but it would be great.
Thats interesting to hear Slap, did he get tagged often.

Strange bustin yer hole for 6 rounds against McNally and paying for a good American to come over then and on the day he arrives pulling out.

There must be a story behind this.

Fooks sake, is he ever going to get in the ring with anyone decent!?! Hope there's a good reason behind this.

the sceptic in me says he wants to get paid.

i.e no risky bouts unless its for a world title.

He is creaming alot of mileage out of the Amin Asikainen win. in the 18 months since, he has fought 2 bums and Ruben Varon.

I'm beginning to think he is afraid of risks, part of me says he is right if its a case he has secured a world title shot.

But the other part of me thinks he is extremely under prepared going into a world title fight.

He talks alot about having paid his dues but has he really?

According to this he is going to side step Gevor and go directly for a crack at Felix Strum's title without a tune up fight! Madness!

He's had enough tune-ups without visible improvement so he may as well.

now that the fight is cancelled and the talk is Macklin is going for a title fight, when could he fight?Wouldn't he have been hitting peak condition now after training for Wright/Gevor bouts the last 5/6 weeks.

Well Strum's name has been mentioned, but he only fought seven weeks ago so I doubt he'd be fighting again until late summer. Unless Macklin is really confident that either Golovkin, Zbik, Sylvester or Pirog will fight him then his decision to pull out of this title eliminator against a credible opponent is very questionable.

Pirog only fought last week, so that's another off the list.

My money would be on Macklin facing the 'regular' WBA champion, Gennady Golovkin, next taking into consideration that Sebastian Sylvester is scheduled to fight Daniel Geale in May and Sebastian Zbik is up against Julio Cesar Chavez Jr in June.

A fight with Golovkin is the likely scenario alright. Sergio Martinez is the man at that weight so be it Strurm, Pirog or whoever else it doesnt really matter as the world champ is Martinez. The belts in this division now are pretty much bargaining tools and it makes much more sense to fight Golovkin for the wba title then an eliminator. Who needs eliminators when there are 7 belts floating around.
