hi guys i'm in one of the schools that are doing project maths for the jc and i'm not sure what the difference is with p.m and previous paper 2s and would practising off the previous non project maths paper 2s be useful because otherwise i only have one sample paper and the mock one :D

I don't know much about the Project Maths Course, but from what I can gather, it is very different to the current Maths course, so I don't think practicing past papers will be very beneficial.

I know textbook questions aren't great, but I'd make sure that I can do every question in the textbook. They are not the same as exam questions but what else can you do?

we use texts and tests two so there isn't anything for project maths in it...

What? How can you possibly do the Project Maths course without having a proper textbook? Madness.

i know :( they gave us two booklets but there wasn't much in them so all we have to work off is the mock and sample paper and my teacher told us not to follow the mock one because it was from the ncca and the actual junior cert is set by the state examinations commission

What's the NCAA? Also, all none of the Mocks are made by the SEC. They are made by other companies but they all follow the same format as the actual exams. I would practice your Mock paper if I were you.

Tough situation though. Perhaps go out an buy a proper Maths book yourself?

The SEC paper will be based on the NCCA sample.

i bought the revise wise higher level one but its only good for paper 1... i'm not even sure whats on the project maths course tbh. it's really annoying though i wish they had a proper book and things i could work off instead of having a divided course and all the books and things for the old course and my teacher is still only learning how to teach it as well.

They do have proper books. I've seen loads of them lying around my school. They must have them as all first years are doing the course.

Texts and Tests 1 - this is all I could find for Junior Cert level on that website. I don't know if it will be of any help to you. It only covers strands one and two, but it's better than nothing.

thank you for all your help :)

Are you in a project school? If so, you have nothing to work from except (as you said) sample paper and mock paper. And you're right the sample paper is the only official paper.

Are you affected by strands 1 (statistics/probability) and 2 (geometry and trigonometry). If so, textbooks exist for the first year course only and would not cover the full jc pm course.

My advice to you is use the pm website, look at the teaching and learning plans, make sure you understand all the terms and can do all the student activities. Also use the student cd. Be able to do any exercise your teacher has done with you. And good luck!

yes we are only doing strand 1 and strand 2, thank you for the advice :)
