It will feel a very long mile now.

It's only a small stretch outside a school and only while kids are coming and going. Forgive me for not filling with rage

Crazy speed limit to impose on people to be honest, I've had to put up with it through Slane village and its disgracefully slow. You can cycle faster than that and not be worried about speed fines.

EDIT: Was unaware its only for a section outside a school.

In Slane its the whole village, even on parts miles away from any sort of urban build up.

You'd be lucky to hit 30km/h if you wanted to for most of that time.

30 kmh is a dangerous limit IMO.

Means that motorists are looking down at the speedometer more, trying to maintain an unnaturallly slow speed - whereas they should in that are be paying extra attention to the road.

That's near me. Its not really a big deal, as noted, during those times, and there is some justification based on what's in the immediate area.

It's for about 300 metres outside a school, same story on the one in Chapelizod. You really should be able to maintain a steady speed for 300 metres without staring at the speedo the whole way

don't they have that for a school over in fonthill too near the nct centre?

it's a bloody nightmare so it is. stop trying to enforce stupid speed limits in everywhere. do something to educate people instead or put up some railings outside the schools and a properly marked pedestrian crossing (or better still a flyover or something).

Have you actually driven for a sustained period at 30 kmh?

Say down the quays at night for example. Theres no traffic. Yet I find myself more focused on maintaining a speed that is too low for the conditions

50 kmh is more than adequate.

I wouldn't call 300 odd metres a sustained period. I have driven the quays at night and can easily maintain 30kmh without staring at the speedo

I drive the quays regularly...keeping to 30 kph is not challenging. If you're finding it that difficult to control the car without staring at the speedo...well...?

Well I don't stare at the speedo, then again I don't do 30km/h either! :D

Is it that much of a struggle to get the Escort up to 30?

You should try it down the hill in Slane, then for a mile out of the village to the middle of the country. The signs either side of the village are great though. The faster you go, the more lights that come on.
