An incident at portarlington has meant all trains on the cork/limerick line have been stopped and bus transfers are being arranged for those affected. More info on the Irish rail site and their Twitter site.

Any idea what the incident was is it serious ?

IrishRail.ie said someone was struck by the train.

The Irish rail website mentions a person struck by a train.

Rail users Ireland are saying there will be no departures from Heuston until further notice except for kildare and newbridge commuter trains, and Rte say it could be 5hours before normal services are resumed.

Just drove past to see what the story was on my way home! There was an ambulance, fire brigade and a couple of squad cars there as well as CIE workers! They were all kinda in a service area off the back of the South/West platform! Train stopped a few hundred metres up from them! So all I could do is speculate that someone slipped off the platform but unfortunately it may not be so simple!

By all accounts from what I am hearing, some poor sod decided to end it all.

My condolences to the family affected and the driver.

If that is the case, and I wouldn't be surprised if it is cause there is a history of it in this town, I'm amased how close it is to the station!

    Tough for the driver.

The board in Heuston station still show all trains as being on time Instead of bus transfers to all stops past kildare on that line.

Around four trains have gone through in the last half hour so things seem to back up and running!

Unusual that Irish Rail mention a person being struck by a train, as they usually don't mention anything like that if it is in fact the case where someone commits suicide on the train line.

I thought perhaps it was an accident as there was quite a bit of information on it.

Either way, sad to hear someone lost their life and hoping all is back to normal soon.

Its a terrible accident, My neighbor was bringing the Ammonia train out of Kent station a number of years back and as he came out of the tunnel some chap decided his time had come. He never drove a train again.

When i lived in Holland me and my workmates used get the very early train to Schiphol on a friday morning to go home and 3 times in 9 months someone was struck my a train under what ever circumstances im not sure but thank god it was never on a day when i was on route to AMsterdam.
