Bank checks for mortgage app

I'm going to apply for a mortgage as a first time buyer and am wondering can the bank find that I already own a property if I don't tell them about it? There is and never has been a mortgage on the property.

As advised in your previous thread, not declaring your house on the application, would be fraudulent. Not to be advised.
