Personality Test

So I get called to go for a job and they say I need to do a personality test...........alarm bells ring...........I fail them :(, I am a good worker, people can approach me, I work extra hours if/when needed, I would give my job 200% (if that is possible) but I have failed the 3 personality tests I have ever done (in 10 years), so I refuse to go for the job, pity, it was a real nice job! I'd really feel I would be great for it, with experience and qualifications I have. So does anyone know why companies do these tests? How they complie them? How to pass them? Even the recruitment agency said the company had put a good candidate off by the mention of the test and understood why I didn't want to go for it. Any ideas people? I don't want this to stop me from getting great jobs in the future

My understanding is consistency is rated highly. So just give the "right" answer consistently. Don't be honest... :)

Mr L, there is no right or wrong answer, that is the problem. For example, your in a meeting about subject A

do you go off subject A to disucss subject B
do you stick with subject A
do you allow someone to bring up a topic on subject C which is not
relevant to subject A but all the right people are there

    Get me?

Anyone in here who works in this area? Who can help?

Umm - that's not a personality test. More like behavioral or even just common sense. I think in this question there definitely is a right answer - my answer would be B as the meeting was called to discuss A and not B or C regardless who turned up or who misdirects the meeting. They are just checking that you are focused on the task at hand and you don't get distracted easily.

Id suggest you go to a guidance counciller who can help if you are struggling with this. You can find them here: http://www.careerguidance.ie/

As I said, it is about consistency.

Each answer has a certain meaning.

They want to see you are stable and consistent.

Given your example, the correct answer is obviously b.

I did answer stick to topic in hand, all my answers did focus to stick to the topic, problem solving but ask for help if/when needed. I did this at work so it was hard to focus with people coming in but I would think about the question and answer and as above I didn't go off the points. Just failed the first 2 I ever done, wouldn't mind but agencies want me to go for two jobs in one company and the other had an employee contact me about applying for a job there but with the bad experience I had I am not going to. Agency also said it was unfair as the company were not giving people a chance.

I will check out the link tho, pity it won't help for this job :(
