I'll be there alright. I've been told "sign on starts at 11.30 in Colaiste an Chroabhoin and racing starts at 1! Normal place". Best of luck

I'm planning on doing it, ie. it'll be my first race :o
I know the route quite well, and I've been reading the 'race' threads, so it's all systems go (my motto will be "...attack in the morning", I mean afternoon :p).

Beginner Q: If racing begins at 1pm, do they stagger the different groups (A1/2/3/4), and as each group is doing a different number of laps, does it not get confusing with different riders all over the place ? :o

Usually what they do is stagger the starts alright. The A1/A2 race will start first, the A3 a few mins later and finally the A4 race. That way the faster riders start first so they won't be caught by the group behind. A4's start last and finish first :) Hope this helps

It's the usual stuff on calendars - 'usual place' - we all know where and when that is!!
There was a thread a while ago about Cylcling Ireand Calendar but it's as confused as ever. You would think that a progressive club like Fermoy would get the basic info out there, but it's 'the usual ....' for all you newbies.

Hi, i'm new to this board, but i was just wondering is there any pictures of th esilver pail grand prix floating around the net.

Excellent race, very enjoyable, well organised and marshalled. Well done to all in Fermoy CC, who also provided post race refreshments. The good weather is alway a bonus! I competed in the A4 race, but didn't get up to much and finished with the A4 bunch. My garmin stats for this race are here.

My club mate was 4th in the race, but never realised that as well as the one day licence, he also had to sign on for the race. As a result, his 4th place wasn't recognise. A pity for him, it was only his second race, but rules are rules and he won't make that mistake again!

The finish line is actually near Mick Flately's gaff, it was a sight to see him drive through the finish area in his Jaguar convertible.:D

I'll echo those sentiments, the lovely sunshine & strongish wind made for exciting racing. There was a large turnout also.
    it'll be my first race
Well my first race didn't last long :o, so I better list ALL my excuses, ahem... :pac:.
    1. I hadn't any preparation, ie. 3 days of shift work put pay to that.
    2. I started at the back of the group, simply because of my (lack of) experience, I just didn't want to cause any 'mishap'.
    3. All was grand until we hit the 1st corner, sharp left hand bend, I was on the inside and got squeezed in (almost stopped) and then I knew what lay ahead, a longish drag at speed, but when I looked up the main group were nearly at the top, and so I latched onto the back wheel of a group of 3 also trying to make it back on. So for the next few kilometers we were hammering it (hit a peak of 560W/110 cadence) trying to get in touch but it just wasn't happening, and at the next drag I had blown my lights and it was back to 20km/h ! So I looked at my data, I had covered the first 5km at an average of 35km/h but it wasn't enough, and the day was more or less over !
I know I didn't help myself with the preparation, I knew the couse was a speed fest, I know that starting at the back was a mistake, I knew that the lack of 'speed' training wouldn't help, but.............at least I now know whats involved and whats required.
Strange, but I went for a 'gentle' spin yesterday (Monday) and a few km's in I felt strong and even managed a PB on a 2km climb that I regularly do, ah.......if only it was Sunday.....doh !

I saw the pace of the A1/2 group and it is a sight to behold, especially when they keep it up for 100km's

The post race refreshments were the best I have ever had. The usual tea and sandwiches but also hot pastries and sausage roles. Oh and did I mention the cake? Yes that's right there was lots and lots of lovely chocolate cake.

I think I vaguely remember riding a race as well but mostly cake, delicious, moist, sumptuous chocolate cake...

Great race, good to see lots of attacking in the A3 cat. Im getting over the flu so was just happy to finish in the bunch. Hope to be properly fit for the Edge classic which will be a very different type of race.

I havn't raced it before but I know the area and its fairly hilly. I'm looking forward to it because it will split the bunch up and you wont be able to just sit in and get dragged along. Some of the Munster A3/A4 races so far this year have had massive bunches all the way to the finish line so I'm glad we're getting a race where it will get broken up a bit
