PayPal gave eBay seller wrong address - Options?

    Hi everyone,

Last Thursday I bought an item on eBay from a seller in the UK. I paid via PayPal.

On Monday morning I got a notification from PayPal to say that that the seller had printed a postage label, and the package had been sent. To my horror, they listed my address as being in Co. Antrim rather than Co. Cork (the other address lines were correct). I've no idea how this happened, because I logged into PayPal and looked at my profile and my address is correct (this isn't the first time I've bought off eBay via PayPal either). My eBay profile also displays my correct address.

I got onto the seller who thought it was quite bizarre (also because she had actually shipped it on Friday) but had already posted the package - she hoped that the mistake would be flagged as it was addressed to Rep. of Ireland rather than Northern Ireland. The postage is also insured, though I'm not sure if that's going to help the situation.

It is perhaps premature to start this thread given that it could still arrive, but I'm wondering if I should be more proactive about the situation. For some reason PayPal's 'email us' section is not loading for me properly on the website, so I have no contact details to flag it to them.

    Thanks for any advice.

The last item that I bought on Ebay from the UK, also said Co Antrim instead of Co Kerry, but I still got it. There must have been enough non-Antrim detail in the rest of the address to steer the delivery in the right direction. My Paypal details didn't mention Antrim at all. Your parcel might show up yet.

    They've obviously got a thing for Antrim.

By any chance did you use a postcode?

@ejmaztec: Good to hear I'm not alone and that it worked out for you! I'm hoping there's enough detail for mine to make its way here too.

@dilallio: Nah unfortunately we don't really have a postcode.

In my case, no. My details on Paypal haven't changed over the 10 years that I've been using it, and this was the first UK item not to have the correct county on it.

The sender for my item actually sent me an email asking for a postcode, but I didn't spot the email for a couple of days, during which time he sent me another email telling me that he used IE as a postcode, and then sent it out.

If you do not have an address in antrim on your account, you can file an Item Not Recived claim with paypal or ebay.

Even if the item is delivered in antrim, you will still be refunded - caveat, you must not have an address in antrim on your accounts with ebay or paypal.

The exact same thing happened to me with a transaction last year. Paypal told the seller that I was in Antrim rather than Cork.

It was the paypal account that I had for years and when I checked it all my details were correct. I emailed paypal and was told my account said Co. Cork.

Thankfully, it hasn't happened since. Hopefully your parcel will get to you or else it will be posted back to seller.

Thankfully, I had Cork in my user name and the seller double checked when she saw Antrim.
