Getting a new bike, but what to do with old one!

    Hi There,

I am getting a new hybrid bike in the coming weeks and I was wondering what can be done with an old bike that I have in the garage that used to belong to my wife. The old one is fine, it's just old and out of of style. It's an old 1980's ladies raleigh racer. Is there a recycling facility for bikes? (no pun intended).

    Any advice appreciated!

Don't know if Bikes4Barnardo's is still going or the other option is www.rothar.ie

Alternatively, there's a demand for retro bikes - if it's in good nick you could sell and donate the proceeds to a charity of your choice - might be worth mentioning the charitable aspect in the sale to discourage low-balling of offers.

You could sell that handy enough, plenty of demand for second hand bikes especially old racers. Where are you based, if you post a few pics and describe it's condition in more detail people will likely give you an estimated value you should expect to receive.

I saw an ad recently in one of the free newspapers (could be any of the above charities mentioned above) but they were willing to collect your old bike/s free of charge and give to charities - I'll try and dig out the ad.

Thanks folks for some ideas. I will take a few pics of it and pit them up. Am I allowed to put them on this thread I wonder?

Shame it's a ladies' bike. I'd have taken it otherwise.

Do you know what size the bike is? or the height of the lady who previosly owned it? It looks nice to do up. Are you based in Dublin?
