Creating a Social Network Site

Very basic question. I have an idea for a social networking type site but I am utterly clueless when it comes to computers. I am just wondering how I would go about recruiting someone to build it for me and how complicated/pricey it would be to create a basic social network site? I have tried socialgo but it doesn't allow me to do things that I'd like to do for my idea. I reckon what I have may be a very good idea and I would like to pursue it so any help is appreciated!

    Define "basic"

How long is a piece of string? The answer to your question depends on various factors; scale (hundreds or millions of users), technologies used (what languages the website is written in), and other features (sharing text is easy, hosting video conferences is another matter).

If you are looking for someone to work on the project feel free to PM me with a more detailed specification of the site and I'd be happy to back to you with a quote.

    Good luck with the project!

Have a look at diaspora and see if it would fit your needs.
