Well firstly you've implied that you already know that washing it too much is bad for it, why don't you stop? Surely once you tie your hair back well, it won't get sweaty. I often feel like my hair's dirty after exercising but once I wash my face I realise it isn't actually dirty, it's mainly just the feeling of hotness on my forehead.

As for shampoo and conditioner, TRESemme is really good. Brush your hair before getting in the shower, put shampoo in as normal, rinse as normal, and then when you put the conditioner, comb it through your hair with your fingers. You'll lose a bit of hair in your hands, but once you're not being rough, it's just hair that's already fallen out naturally. Leave it in for 2 mins or so while you wash your face or whatever, then rinse well. Also make sure to wash your back properly as the conditioner residue sticks and can cause spots on your back if left. Try not to wash it more than once every two days. If you really really feel you need to, then only use conditioner every two days.

Ugh, when I exercise my hairline and nape of neck get sweaty - there's no way it can't be washed. Dry shampoo will not resolve it. Some people perspire more than others I think.

OP It really depends on your hair type. Try a hair mask once or twice a week (aussie 3 minute is the best cheap one) and use a gently shampoo/conditioner suited to your hair type. Pantent Aqua Light got a lot of good reviews, tho it did not work for me personally.

My response is just my opinion. I'd expect 4 or 5 different opinions on a question such as this after a couple of days - don't be confused by my opinion! Everyone finds something different taht works for them

hi, I have very long, very thick curly hair which is very prone to dryness/breakage. hairdressers class it as 'difficult to manage' what I would recommend you do from personal experience is

1 buy kerestase masque intense conditoner (peter marks)

2 use it maybe 2 times per week.

3 buy a leave in conditioner such as loreal elvive leave in conditioner (dunnes) and when your hair is wet put a good bit in and comb it through.

4 if you use the gym on a daily basis and feel that you must wash your hair just use conditioner no shampoo if you want to freshen your hair. only use shampoo on the days that your hair is actually dirty not just sweaty.

    hope this helps!

also i find elvive shampoo and conditioner in the red or pink bottles to be excellent. I've tried every rip off shampoo and conditoner (nikki clarke, frizz ease blah blah blah)out there and none of them are better than this

I was going to recommend the 3 minute miracle but someone else has suggested it.

Personally I find blow-drying serum into my hair has the most noticeable effect on the appearance - though admittedly this isn't making it any healthier, just changing how it looks. I do it in combination with Aussie Miracle. I have very thick, curly dry hair naturally and I straighten it which doesn't help, so I know what you mean.

Boots sell the naked range of hair and body products, they have no chemicals to build up in your hair or to dry it out. The hair masks are brill and the shampoos really really mild as well as effective. try using something that will be gentle on your hair if you are going to be washing it that frequently, but also you need to use some good conditioner

im a guy 40 yrs of age and just find that when i let my hair get long its un managagble and looks like a dry mop lol

If i just use conditioner every day will that suffice ????

It should do, there is a whole technique to it though, you don't just apply the conditioner as normal, you have to use the conditioner to 'shampoo' your hair, I haven't done it but it's supposed to be brilliant once your hair gets used to it.

i agree with an earlier poster ....Moroccan oil is fab ....just a small amount applied to towel dried hair once or twice a week is sufficient. I go swimming regularly and find this the best way to prevent hair from drying out.

Another vote for moroccan oil here, it's really really good!

I recommend Herbal Essences Hello Hydration. (boots)

This is the best conditioner I've had, split ends are invisible after I use it.

Also coconut oil - you can get it in Holland and Barrets
    http://www.hollandandbarrett.ie/pages/product_detail.asp?pid=690&searchterm=coconut%20oil&rdcnt=1
or just go to Asian market - around 2-3 euro per jar.
Melt a spoon of oil in microwave and oil your hair (especially ends) before wash (keep it for 30m-1hr) then wash your hair normally.
I do it once a week. My boyfriend has long hair (his your age and his hair was also dry) and now he uses this technique, since he started the oiling his hair grew even more (around 10 cm) because the oiling prevents hair breakage.

No, like gigawatt said, wash it with shampoo, but no conditioner. Only use the conditioner every two days.

The other way around! Try just washing your hair with conditioner when it's sweaty, avoid the shampoo because it will strip your hair of oils.

Also if you have short hair or easy to brush long hair you could try switching to a SLS free shampoo, something like the Burts Bees shampoo bar. I find it works well when my hair is short but when it's long it's impossible to brush after using it. The SLS is what strips the oils from your hair and dries it out.
