I just received an OTA update for my Hero. It downloaded and installed (as far as I know) but now the phone is stuck on the boot screen. Can anyone suggest what to do? Should I wait it out or force a new reboot?

Does anyone know what the new update does?

I'd force restart it but I'm really impatient so that might not be the best idea.

Oops, forced reboot and it still won't pass the 'Hero' screen

Crap. Hope you didn't do that just cos I said I would.
If you had clockworkmod recovery it wouldn't be so bad. Hmmm

This happened me the other day.

Had to do a full factory install i'm afraid.

Basically thats what HTC will do if you send it off to them to be repaired. I went down every avenue on the phone with them and send it off was the only thing they could think of..

    Sooo.

    We do it ourselves.

    step 1.
    Go here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=559622
and download one of the WWE roms.

    step 2.
    Install it.

    step 3.
    Dont plug in your Hero.

Tick I understand yadayada... click Next
Dont follow any of the programs instructions.
Just tick i have completed the steps indicated and click next.

This makes a new rom image (in your temp folder) that you'll flash onto the phone..

    NB!!!! Don't click exit.

    Step 4.
Go to my computer-> C drive -> users -> Yourname (home folder name) -> app data (this is a hidden folder on win 7) -> local

    step 5.
when in there, use the search box to find Rom.zip

Copy this to your desktop. or wherever you want and rename it HEROIMG.zip
Now you can close the HTC program running.

    Step 6.
Format your Sd card on your phone.

    Step 7.
copy on HEROIMG.zip and put back into your phone.

    Step 8.
hold down vol down + power

the phone should now load the new rom and your away with it..

    Pheww.. haha.

    EDIT...

Just found where I originally saw this method. WOrked a treat for me..
BTW you'll lose everything. But at least you'll have a phone again. I went without mine for 2 weeks until I found this method.

PS that update was a load of bollix to just fix the twitter app. So dont let it install again unless you need to.

Can you download a custom rom and. Rename it to heroimg.zip and then install that?

    I've no clue.

I doubt it if you have to root your phone before any other roms can be flashed.
    Dunno though?

I'm glad of having to figure this stuff out. Just made me figure out the whole flashing buisness and so now running the froydvillain 1.7.2.. phones back like a champ

yeah its fun doing it yourself rather than sending it away. Even though it's fairly straight forward, you still feel like a legend showing of your custom rom to your stock friends lol.
