Grant and Part time work

Does anyone work part time and not declare it on their yearly grant app?

I recently got a part time job for 6 hours a week. I'm just a little worried that they'll see I'm earning money and not give me the grant for 2011/2012. I'm trying to save as much as possible for the last two years of my degree.

Surely they can't expect students to live on just e1,300 a year?!!

I declared mine last year (16 hours per week), which added up to around €9000. I still received the Level 5 (100% maintenance)
I am dependent on my parents, neither of them were employed at the time.

They will add your income to your parents income, and if the amount is still below reckonable income limits, then you will still get your grant.
You can check that here http://www.studentfinance.ie/mp9392/check-reckonable-income-bands/index.html

Best to include it on the form in any case. Leaving it out might only get you into trouble if you're found out to be lying.

Very true, I'd say there would be serious trouble if they found out I was lying! Thanks a million, that really put my mind at rest. I don't mind the maintenance I just know I wouldn't be able to pay the reg fee and try to support myself too.

    Thanks :)

If youve oly just started the job it will make no difference to your grant app for 11/12, its done on teh previous tax year which is the year ending 31/12/10 for next years app. You will have to include your P60 and that will state how much you earned through the year. there is no need for you to provide a break down. Students are no penalised for the first 3000 they make with their part time jobs as they are expected to work to try and keep themselves going

i think you can earn closer to 4k with out it having an impact..........not tellinig them you earned it would be wrong and leaving yourself open to a world of hassle..........
