Yup looking forward to his stuff. I've been following him on twitter the past few weeks while he was away. He caused a huge stir a few days ago when he called out another photographer who's charging a lot for mentoring/business advice..

Yeah, Jesh DeRox. I watched some of his webcast the following day and it was painful. He's all about the money but hides it behind this whole whole trying to start a 'revolution' in the photography business thing.

I've been following Jesh's stuff for about two years now and haven't made my mind up about him. Sadly missed the webcast where it all fired off. I think from reading around that Zack got it all wrong though, it's wasn't $16,000 for one day with Jesh. It was one full on day in person with him, lots of emails, a few days a week/s web seminars. Still sounds pricey though!

The 16K thing is the discounted price that he was giving to a select few early adopters. The actual price is 20K, although he was quite vague about what that actually got you.

He's basically trying to build a franchise. He sells you his way of doing things for a lot of money and you can then say that you're part of his 'collective' of photographers that specialise in an 'experiential' form of photography. Think you may have to keep paying some form fee to him as well so you can stay part of the 'elite'.

I think he's a bit of a weasel myself. Anyone who talks about money as much as he did cannot be a genuine person in my opinion.

Took a look at Jesh's website and I didn't find any photos that I thought were amazing. Isn't he just doing what a lot of other people are doing but just coining his own phrase for it? His site did had terrible background music with no off button too.

ok, disclaimer; i've never heard of either of these 2 guys before today.

now onto the stupid question; is the 'experimental' technique in yer man jesh's work not just some funky colour processing and some textures? those images are ten a penny among young leftie hip north american photographers. [of which i'm a fan, btw]

am i missing something else about his stuff that's blatently obvious to everyone else?

Nope that's pretty much it. He's good at blabbering on about it so that it sounds like something more though. Great salesman!

    snake oil!

Damn it, I knew I was missing something with my photography :(

( where can one buy some of this snake oil you speak of...... eBay appears to be all out of it :( )

Actually, of the creative live stuff i've seen, Zack Arias is actually one of the better practically focussed sessions that you are likely to learn something at. If you are a "one light ninja" then it probably won't be for you.

    I'll take a look again.

I suspect him and J* were the cash cows for creative, so they are probably doing what all good business people do and milking it.

+ the Women seem to love him too, you'll notice that the majority of people who attend his workshops & follow him on facebook are women.

Could'nt believe his 16k price tag crazy stuff, he does know how to charge - his "Beloved" field kit i think goes for around $300 - its basically a few images with a poem written on the back, all wrapped up in a lovely box!

Personally, I found that elbow grease is what improved my photography most. It's hard to find though. :(

Is that Jesh chap real? There's a site there. He can't honestly be charging 20k. Was this an April fools?
