Prices Vary. I think I have one of these. I got it in City Cycles.

I took it off as I didn't like it staring up at me judgementally.

I have one of these. Cheap & cheerful but does the job fine.

I have a cateye velo 8. Cost about 20pounds although mine came with the bike. Simple to use and has a thicker wire than most

I got one in LIDL two weeks ago. Loads of fun €5.99 and the fact, that I went down a hill with 61.5 km/h :D

If you have a smartphone, there's an array of decent free apps that will track your rides via gps for you.

A Garmin Edge 305. Cost a fair wack at the time even with the bartaring and the price match I got.

Dont have the Heart Rate and Cadence monitor my self, not into it enough to check the Cadence but monitoring the Heart Rate would be interesting to see.

    Garmin Edge 500
Got from Handtec.co.uk, much cheaper than anywhere else, still expensive enough though.

Tracks dist, speed, temp, height, time, time of day, HR and Cadence if you have the sensors and cal.

Combined with Garmin connect which you can upload all data to and view maps of route etc it's a fairly handy piece of kit :)

Depending on your budget, the Garmins above would be at the top end. If you just want a decent cheap and cheerful speed/distance computer get a Cateye. Easy to set up and decent kit. A Velo or similar should cost around €20

Cateye are very reliable; I have one over ten years old still working as good as the day I bought it. Aldi/Lidl type jobs may be fine or may not, the one I bought never worked.

I have the cateye cadence and would recommed cateye, very easy to use, big digits on screen, yet still small. wiggle are one of the cheaper places to buy cateye atm, although there may be cheaper.

EDIT: forgot to ad that all sensors still worked through the snow despite being covered in slush (wired, not wireless), i was very impressed.

I just found out the polar cs300 does all the things that a cycle computer is expected to do..but it's wearable on the wrist so it'd be useful on a run or in the gym as well. Not sure if these are things on your list of priorities..

Literally just placed the order through amazon (it's on sale for 99gbp).

I use the one below on my crappy bike and it actually works just fine. Less than €5 delivered:

I use the one below on the good bike and so far it's performed flawlessly:
