How about an index for the training log sub-forum?

For me the training log sub-forum is great and is probably what keeps me coming back to ART. There is some great stuff in there but it is increasingly busy and the turnover just seems to be getting quicker. Most of us probably only look at a select few.
Would anyone else see any value in having a sticky that groups logs with related goals together?

    e.g
    C25K
    Marathon Sub3
    Marathon Sub 4
    Mountain running
    IM sub 10
    IM - don't die
    Ultra
    10k
    Adventure
    etc........

Of course its totally voluntary. You add your username, log title, goal and race to the appropriate group only if you want.
Just an idea, stop me if this has been suggested, debated and shot down in the past.

Good idea, lets try it for a while. Logs are certainly one of the best parts of the forum, it will be helpful to discover other loggers with similar goals. Might give another impetus to the Meet and Train thread, too.

Hate to be a killjoy but part of me thinks this will take even more of the posts away from the main forum and into the logs. Most of the banter seems to be in the logs as it is without grouping people into even more little cliques. Just my opinion like.

imho the forum has been tinkered with enough, we all know the logs we go into as it is, i really don't think it's needed to off categorizing something else in the forum. Could be on my own on that one though

    EDIT: agree with RQs sentiments

What if you have multiple goals across multiple sports?

Just to clarify, there won't be any more tinkering or sub-sub-forums (I agree there's been enough of that lately). This is just an opt-in list of who is training for what (I think thats what you were looking for dermCu?). Handy to be able to direct new posters to, as an example of the specific training they might like to do.

If you are training for lots of events, cross reference if you like.

So... is this not a good time for my suggestion of a Dublin City Marathon subforum, starting in the summer? :D

I did see the thread in the logs before I saw this one. Probably because all the activity on here is in there these days. So my thoughts in my post still stand.

3:20->3:25 is a bit broad, when Krusty has his next marathon time down to the minute:)

Personally, I'd categorise logs from "don't miss a word" to "chatter heaven" on one axis, and from "introvert whingeing" to "inspirational" on the other axis, and then give each log an (x,y) value, adjusted each time there's a post (more weight for logger's posts, less for comments). :o Then depending on the mood you're in, you can go for the frothier logs to the more weighty ones.

Bhaa, your just a killjoy :P
I see where you are coming from, the main forum is a bit dead lately but isn't it better to at least have one part of ART buzzing rather than be rigid and see the whole thing slide?

It might promote cliques a little bit but lets be honest there were always cliques within this forum and there always will be. Its not intentional or sinister its just the way people group. On the whole this is one of the most open and friendly communities I've seen.

Thats one part of it donothop. Its just an easy way to group training logs with a similar aim. Over time you could get a really good list of training logs and how they panned out. All that experience is hard won, there should be a way of keeping it alive rather than just letting it fade away. If there is a better way than this type of list then great.
On top of that imagine if you were brand new to boards and you stumbled into the training logs....."Wow look at all this good s**t, where do I start?" - Right here at the index, just like a big refernce book you dont necessarly need to read the whole thing.

I thought of the initial categories in about 5 seconds!! They were just for example, donothop was super quick out of the block:)

Amazing that Track and Field, the discipline of athletics that draws the biggest global audience, is reduced to the "etc" category here

This is an absolutely brilliant idea. We could graph each log throughout a training cycle and see if any trends occur. I imagine we will see graphs nose dive towards introvert whinging as a race date approaches. We could call this trend - The Event Horizon.

    Biggest audience, smallest participation.

Chatting on a forum lends itself better to talk of "this is what I did", rather than "did you see what they did". People love to talk about themselves more than others. ;)

There are three T&F categories in the index.

I have noticed that from this forum. More people were interested in my marathon than David Rudisha's world record. Madness of the highest order! :)

    Nice one :)

Maybe a general "Road and Cross Country" category aswell, as all the Road category's are very specific and dont cover anything below 10km (unless you are doing C25K).
