Just had to put a separate thread up here re todays play in the China Open.
Quite simply it's the best days snooker i've seen at a ranking event in many years.
First we had Stephen Lee beat Mark Williams 5-4 in a match of the highest quality snooker, Williams had four tons and a fifty in the last yet still lost!

Then we had the World Six Red Champion Mark Davis beat Stephen Maguire 5-3 completing the win with a 137 clearance.

Next up we had Shaun Murphy come from behind to beat Joe Perry 5-3.

The home favourite Ding Junhui was 4-1 down to qualifier Kurt Maflin but with the help of two centuries came back to win 5-4.

Ken Doherty's victor proved he was no one hit wonder and beat Greame Dott 5-4 to reach the last 16 in a ranking event for the first time in his short career.

Mark Allen was the next seed to go losing to a resurgent Marcus Campbell 5-4.

Many of the press gang reckon it's been one of the finest days snooker at a ranking event for many years.

Everyone here agrees that it's down to one thing and that's the amount of snooker these guys are playing is more than double on last season, since Barry Hearn has taken the reigns snooker has been reinvented, players like Stephen Lee who last year considered quitting the game are now playing the best snooker of their careers this is due to playing more, from a season that had six ranking events to this season that has twelve extra events to next season which will have over thirty events, ten of which will be ranking, its great times to be a snooker player again.

Lee said he is playing in an event almost every two weeks now, and Shaun Murphy has played 104 matches already this season!

The prize money has almost doubled in some events too, for instance this weeks winner will collect £60K a record for a ranking event in China.

With the world championship around the corner and so many players playing at the top of their game it promises to be one of the best world championships we've seen in a long time.
An added bonus is that next seasons world number one spot will be decided in Sheffield too.
