Sounds like a specific offer for you, as opposed to a general offer for anybody to avail of. Maybe you had the HD pack previously but cancelled it?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,140 ✭✭✭John mac

    I got the same phone call @15:00 , €7.50 for 12 months..
I have a hd box but not a hd sub.

I just got a phonecall from SKY offering, €7.50 a month for the HD package. Just said I'd post it here for anyone considering upgrading. Doesn't appeal to me really.
i got a call last week any package half price for 12 months, €30 for a HD box incl install to "come back to sky"

I got the same offer plus €50 in my account so the first 4 months with the basic package would be pretty much free. I wouldnt have to sign up to a contract so I could cancel anytime.

I am happy with my freesat so I said no thanks!

If your a sky customer for over a year ring up and cancel, tell them its costing too much....

Ive had an 80 euro HD package for 50 euro for the last 6 months when it ran out I rang and did the same thing again and got it for another 6 months.

they will struggle a bit more once Saorview lands fully. Hook up a combo box mange the channel layout to suit yourself and away you go.

I doubt it to be honest. There is estimated to be 750,000 Sky customers in Ireland with around 10% of them subscribed to the HD package. That's not a bad number in fairness, and are making a nice bit of revenue.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,967 ✭✭✭JDxtra

Sky are making savage money, they are not struggling at all. It's about getting more revenue - something is better than nothing at all from a customer.

sorry for asking but just bought a hd box for the better epg and larger recording.
Am I right in saying the only hd channel I can get is bbc hd? cheers

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,367 ✭✭✭fionny

Sounds about right, you will only get the free to air one's so BBC's and some of the rubbish ones like Rush tv...

Just phoned sky, said my sky box is very old (8yrs),said i was thinking going free sat and cancelling,he said will give me a free sky+hd box and free install if i stay and i don't have to subscript to sky hd,he then said there are doing a special offer for hd for E7.50 a month if I'm interested, i will still get a new hd box if i said no.
i will try it anyway for E7.50 a month, have to sigh a new contract for 12 months. (31 day cooling of period from install.)

Just got a call from Sky, as I'm an ex-customer they were offering me a HD+ box, full package with HD channels, free install, no 12 month contract all for €15 a month for the next 12 months. Pity they couldn't offer me that when I was a customer with them.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,534 ✭✭✭Dman001

The HD Package for €7.50 a month isn't a bad deal, if you're getting a free box on top of that. It ends up being €90 for the 12 months, not bad seeing as you can cancel after the 12 months, and keep the bigger capacity Sky Box.

Rang them myself this afternoon. Im a current subscriber and they had no deals to offer whatsoever. Couldnt be bothered going down the cancel/resubscribe route for the sake of it though.

That's why I cancelled, customer of 11 years with them and they wanted me to pay €300 for a new box when the one I had broke, I asked for any sort of discount on the price and was told no

FULL Sky World Pack plus HD for 15 euro a month ,its normally 91 euro ,that doesnt seem to sound right .

I disconnected last year and they offered me any package half price for 12 months if I reconnected.
I'm still paying 38 euro per month for the full package and to be honest I dont even think its worth that.

That's why I asked the sales person a second time was the price right, that's what was being offered.

You must be special! The offer is usually half price on any package for 12 months plus 7.50 pm for the HD and a free HD box.
If they ring me with it I'll snap it up, cancelled back in february.

He or she was lying to get a sale. Sky staff don't even get that kind of deal.

No luck here.... i rang to cancel and was offered my current package for 20 euro for 12 months.... no hugh difference there as Im only paying 25.

I declined, mentioned Freesat HD and was offered an HD box for 40... I said its free to new customers... so Ive cancelled.

Will sign up again for the same packages and a new box (as old sky plus box is a bit banjaxed) in a couple of weeks..

If that's the case then good job I didn't take the offer.

I got a call today offering free for a few months then half price afterwards with no 12 month contract. I turned it down.

I am cancelling UPC and moving to Sky, rang the sales line there and the guy I was dealing with said there was no HD for €7.50 offer. :( Balls. I wonder is there any good tactic to use to get a good deal, or are these deals only for existing Sky users who have scaled back their services?

Just get the box installed minus the HD sub, you'll get the fta HD channels.Sometimes Sky will contact you and offer the HD pack at a reduced rate once you have the box in for a while.

Called me last week with the 7.50 offer as well. I told them to call me back in a week while I had a gander at the HD epg. Having looked at it there is very little that we would use although sport in HD looks attractive. Rugby World Cup coming up to so they will no doubt be pushing more deals later in the year.

Thanks for the tip. Reduced my €15 hd fee to €7.50 for the next 12 months.

Also plan to 'cancel' ESPN over the summer. Did the same last year and they left me connected free of charge from June to September. Worth a price of a call.

I phoned and said I was considering cancelling my package (customer for 10 years) and they didn't even bat an eyelid. It appears that the longer you're with them, the less of a **** they give about you

The awkward thing for me is that because I live so rurally, UPC isn't available to me so Sky is the only option.

I'm thinking now about cancelling and getting my wife to subscribe as a new customer. Does anyone know how long it takes for the install to happen after ordering?

Don't understand why some people can get discount and others cant,
i phoned last week, said i was think ongoing free sat, as my box is 8 yrs old,
sky now coming this saturday with new hd box free install and E7.50 for hd,didn't have to take hd package, he would give me a new box anyway(with sky for 7yrs).

If you go down that road, make sure you change the details they already have about you. Sign up in another family member's name or pay the DD from a different account. If you don't throw them off track in some way, they may recognise you as a previous customer. You could even sign up again yourself as Gaeilge & they will never cotton on:)

I dont want to get on to those muppets in Cork. Can you PM me the UK number you used please?

Sky rang me 3 times this week, missed them all. Finally got their call today, 3 months Sky Movies or Sky Sports half price. Said no, not a great deal.
