    Hi,

A friend of mine has decided that this
    http://www.raleigh.ie/_bikes/viewBike.asp?bikeID=169

is what he'd like to spend his bike 2 work money on.

It'll mainly be used for training and competing in his first sprint triathlon. It seems to be good value on-line but he'd like to try it out in the flesh first. Problem is no-one local (Dublin) seems to stock it. Lots of shops listed on the Raleigh website as stockists, but none of them have it. Anyone seen one on their travels?

    Thanks

Just know that Raleigh ain't what they used to be, they were bought out years ago and are a more generic brand I think, not saying this is a bad thing, just saying their not a main make any more. Also it is pretty much an entry level bike, if he plans on 'getting into' tri's he may end up upgrading. Just saying is all. Other than that, one must buy what one wants, if there was one bike to fit all..... there'd only be one bike on the market I guess.

Just know that Raleigh ain't what they used to be,
They have been trying to breathe life back into the brand lately. The Carbon Fibre bikes seem to get decent reviews. But I lifted up an women's XS aluminium Raleigh roadbike on a bike shopping spree with a friend and it weighed a ton. And all the weight was to the rear of the bike. I lifted up a slightly larger Giant and it was much lighter and more balanced for only slightly more money.

agree with what the others are saying. have you checked eurocycles (long mile rd) and citycycles (blackhall place)

Thanks for all the replies. I think the main reason he's picked it out is that for less than 500 pounds he's getting a Sora groupset, whereas he was originally looking at the Giant Defy range, where you'd be paying over a grand for the Defy 2 with Sora.
