    Guys,
I brought in a car from UK bought from a dealer. He is legit and reputable so i have no problem with that. When transferring the documents, he said that I did not receivethe V5 doc and said that he had to send it off to DVLA and they would issue to my Irish Address. Im just wondering if he did the right thing ? I took a copy of the log book alright and have all other docs. I want to get it re registered as soon as possible but can I do this with out the V5 form with my details on it ? If I dont get the V5 form soon, what are my options to get it re registered asap?! I dont want to run the risk of bumping into the Customs boys...
    Just paranoid
    Cheers fo rany feedback

He should have given you the top part of the V5 and sent off the part on the bottom to the DVLA signing it and stating that the car has been exported.I've imported a few cars from the UK in the past and have never had any dealings with the DVLA........

You need the V5 to vrt the car here

No. He didn't do the right thing.
DVLA will not issue V5C into your name and Irish address.
Only what they can do, is to post the previous document (that was posted to them) straight to you. But I don't even think they are obliged to do so.
Better ring them and clarify the situation.

I also doubt you will be able to register your car here, without V5C

Hi Humblepie. I was in the same situation a few years back when the V5 form was sent to the DVLA. I wasn't too pushed at first as I had another car on the road so wasn't at risk of bumping into customs.
I then sold my car a bit quicker than expected and needed the UK car on the road (with no V5 form). I e-mailed the DVLA with all the details of the car I had bought and that the V5 form was sent to them with my details on it and could they tell me when I would get it. They replied the following day saying that the form was not processed yet on their side but it would be mailed to when it was processed. I then called the local revenue office and told them of my situation and they told me to call into the offiice. I brought all documention I had including the e-mail I received from the DVLA. The guy I dealt with gave me a letter stating that I was awaiting documention and was allowed to drive the car in Ireland. It was dated for a month. I had to go back and get a second letter as I didn't get the V5 by that time. No prob in getting the second letter of another month. I received the V5 soon after and registered the car. The VRT was calculated on the day I registered and not on the day of import it so I saved a few quid also for my hassle:D.

No. I got the same form back that was sent by the garage. I had filled out the V5 form as you would if you were living in the UK and changing the car into your name. This was wrong but I didn't know any better as the garage said they deal with this situation all the time and knew what to do:rolleyes:.

no thats wrong too . When selling a UK car to a foriegn resident (to them, ie us) the buyer should be given the complete V5C and nothing is sent to the DVLA except a letter from the seller stating what he has done (for his own protection) The Export slip is for the UK registered owner to use ONLY if exporting personally. Doesnt make a lot of difference but thtas what it says on the DVLA website.

I've an odd similar scenario. UK car in Ireland. Registered and owned for 5+ years here. I enquirer to the owner regarding the uk reg. they said a dealer in Dublin imported the car. I looked up the dealer. He specialising in crash repairs.

The car was never registered for export in the UK and is still showing on all their sites I.e no tax, no mot, as if it were never registered. Is the car previously crashed? Probably? And how did he get it in here and vrtd without the v5c? This seems so messy.

Just realised I wrote on the wrong thread and this one is 6 years old :/
