21st Century Years in Sci-Fi Films?

We're at an era where most of the sci-fi movies of the last 50 years were set.
It'd be interesting to gather the years from the various sci-fi movies set in the 21st century. If the movie is set in that year, just list the movie, while if a certain event is mentioned in the movie for that year, mention that event.

A few to set the ball rolling...
    2001: 2001 - A Space Odyssey
2015: Back To The Future II
    2017: The Running Man
    2018: Terminator Salvation
    2019: Bladerunner
2029: The Terminator - The year the terminator was sent back from
    2054: The Minority Report

Transformers (The real Transformers movie, from 1986) ..... set in 2005.

(I rewatched it recently only to realise the 'future' had now become the past')

Is this a list thread? :p

If not, then I'd add Star Trek: First Contact, which iirc was set in the 21st century, when apparently we're living in cheap forest sets?

If he had said it is now 2011, where are my Hoverboards, flying cars etc it could have been interesting

    2019: Bladerunner

Funnily enough Bladerunner is based on Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep by Philip K. Dick - the book was written I think in the early 60s and was set in 1993! Random. Did the author really anticipate artificial intelligence, flying cars, humans inhabiting mars by 93 or did he just pick a future date out of a hat?!

He was probably off his tits on drugs and alcohol at the time, in fairness.

I'd actually like to revisit some old b&w movies from the 50's and see how they represent the present. I remember one that had us living in domes on the moon by the 90's.

event horizon was set in 2040 afaik

the one thing all theese movies have in common is thier ludicriously ambitious view of how much scientific progress man will achieve in the coming decades

Danny Boyle's Sunshine is 2057. Another thing they have in common is the assumption that all but one of every spaceship's crew will be killed horribly. Sort of holds back space exploration really.

    Good point. :D

At least Woody Allen set sleeper in the 2100s - giving us a bit of time to catch up at least :P Maybe by then we might have a nose for a Great Leader, and that special orb that makes you drunk if you stroke it.

Ghost in the Shell - 2029. Even if the Manga was written from 1989 - 1997! Amazing.

It depends which ones you mean. I think the original Shatner/Nimoy films are set around 2280 onward. While the TNG films were set about 100 years later. I'm not sure about the Abrams' film.

The original show is easy to remember because you just add 300years to whatever date the ep aired on tv. So a 1966 ep takes place in 2266.

The next gen / ds9 /voyager are all 377 years after the date each particular episode aired on tv. So a 1990 aired episode takes place in 2367 etc.

This has never been confirmed on air afaik but it's a basic guideline that the show writers adhere to.

As for Enterprise and the Abrams movie I can't answer that because I don't really know due to them both being steaming piles of crap that I have little interest in.

Enterprise was set 150 years into the future i.e. starting in 2151 and included the first Warp 5 Spaceship.
The film Star Trek: First Contact involving going back to 2063 which was when the first Warp drive flight and mankind's first encounter with alien life both occurred.
