14 week old baby still drinking 3 oz every 2 hours

    Hi,
Does anyone know a good website or book that I could take direction from. My little boy has never been a good sleeper at night. But now its getting worse.
During the day he only drinks about 3 oz at a time. Usually every 2 hours. Night time he drinks about the same- again every 2 hours.
In the past few days, he is now drinking less during the day... 2oz every 2 hours, and is waking up more during the night. 3 oz every 1.5 hours.
I have all the time in the world to establish a good routine, but nothing is working.
This morning I decided to wait until he really cries looking for his bottle in hope that he will drink more. He has been up since 7am, its not 8.40 and he still isn't looking for it.

He usually naps for 30 mins every 2 hours during the day also.
He was breastfed for 8 weeks, but is since on Aptamil Comfort. he is now 1 stone 2 pounds
I am EXHAUSTED... any advice appreciated!!

There's a few things I did that may help you.

First off I would stop halfway through a feed and change the nappy then go back to the feed. Little babies seem to get sleepy when feeding and this seems to wake them up.

The other thing I did was start gradually spacing out the feeds, if it was every 2 hours I'd make it every 2 hours 20 minutes, I used to distract him with play or a dummy (when he was really hungry he'd spit it out at me!).

The more you can get into him in the day the less he'll need throughout the night so even if he doesn't seem hungry in the day offer the bottle frequently. He will eventually start sleeping more at night, have faith, every phase passes with time.

maybe try increase the teat size my little one was on teat size 3 at that age as she got fed up sucking and feel asleep and then would want the rest 2 hours later. But when i went up a teat size she was grand she got more milk in half the time and was able to go longer between feeds

    bulmersgal- thanks!
I am using Dr. Browns and teat size 2. So will give that a go.
    Fingers Crossed!
So far today he has only had 8oz

best of luck we were on same bottles, but i would try do as the others have said and try get 10 more minutes between each feed. Also my aunt told me to give her bit of water sometimes as he could be thirsty with it being that bit warmer the last week or so.

bulmersgal: I am forever in debt to you.
he just took 5 oz in half the time.
I feel so foolish for not considering this sooner! I really thought level 3 was for much later on.
I am so gratefull.. thank you for the suggestion! xxx
