Anyone interested in Wild Game bird management should not miss tonight Tuesday 29th Living the Wildlife programme on RTE1 @ 7pm. The program features a behind the scenes look at the Grey Partridge conservation project in Boora. It should be good.

I don't think it mentioned funding, just that the land was previously used for peat harvesting

Don't think I have ever been but looks a good place to walk the dogs. What art is there?

A pile of rocks, a few pools, some other weird sh*te

It is a serious place to walk the dogs, on a lead!!

You can also rent bikes and cycle several miles off road with little or no hills for those who like the simple life.
Hundreds of swans in Winter and sometimes geese, Ducks and many other migritary birds.

Just watched it there, fantastic programme! Can't say enough for Kieran Buckley, he is really a class act. What the man doesn't know about gamebirds isn't worth knowing. What's more is he's got a great way with people, he can put the information to you in an understandable format that makes perfect sense.

As far as funding goes what about having a national draw for a days shooting/ guided tour in Boora. €20 per ticket max one ticket per person, all the names into a hat. Three or four lucky hoors get picked to go shoot a brace of partridge. A memorable day. Or is that a completely mad idea?

Aye, I sorta over looked that bit. Could be a nice money spinner if they wanted to do it right. Outlying land perhaps? One day injunction?

I think that's fairly cool. Sits very well with the local fauna and I'd say it's a home for billions of creatures. I like this sort of thing, we've being doing it way back since our earliest hunter gatherer ancestors, I guess the modern world has knocked it out of a lot of us. I wonder is it lunar or solar aligned? What else is there?

Never ate one. Most birds taste different, duck, goose, turkey, peasant etc

They would taste close to phezzie I would imagine as diet would be similar, diet really influences taste in my experience

their meat when roasted has the same constituency and texture of pheasent.Find them somwhat tougher to chew, and taste, well gamey but not as strong as pheasent.

Similar to pheasant, but don't overcook or it'll become tough and dry!
If cooked properly, its one of the nicest game birds to eat!

There was a scheme targeted at County Meath of Gun clubs buying breeding pairs of partridge and rearing their own. This was mentioned at a few MRGC meetings... 60euro a pair tho!!

One club said they tried it and would rear more if they were available at a better price. Did anyone hear anything about this paired birds scheme?
