I have to be resident in Ireland for last 6 months for travel insurance?

I'm trying to get some travel insurance but all the sites say that I need to have been resident in Ireland for the last 6 months. Well I've only been here about 3 months, I was away backpacking before that! But I was still officially a resident of Ireland while backpacking right? So can I go ahead and book the insurance?
