Laptop booting very slowly and freezing on desktop

    have an acer aspire 5810T and it is very slow at booting and when it does my desktop freezes and I cant do anything, only press start and then it freezes, can't get past the start button,

    any ideas?

    Reboot in "safe mode with networking support" (F8 as soon as BIOS screen disappears) download and install Malwarebytes, run a quick scan. Most of the time will remove whatever nasty is causing the hang. You can then reboot in normal mode and run the quick scan again (as it will catch more that way).

    Make sure you also have decent, up to date AV. I would recommend Microsoft Security Essentials and remove any existing AV from your machine.

    If none of the above works then you may need to reinstall.
