    Hi guys,
im currently studying for my HND in beauty therapy in edinburgh and im in 1st year HND but edinburgh is turning out to be sooo expensive like i work 35 hours a week and have college full time fouir days a week but im still broke with debtors ringing me lol.
basically i was thinking of transferring to crumlin college year 2 CIBTAC, ITEC, CIDESCO beauty therapy course but was wondering would it be less of a qualification or when im getting a job would i have a diploma or what would be the story??
would i get a certificate at the end just saying i have a diploma in beauty therapy or would i have an incomplete hnd and a 2nd year of diploma???
thanks if anyone can help at all thatd be great
    xx

You need to ask Crumlin re ther certification for the ITEC and CIDESCO etc, ask them to clarify how what you have done so far would map onto one of these specific qualifcations i.e. will you get advance standing or will they make you start at the beginning.

Re your HND - you will get a transcript stating what units you have passed to date, these will be expresed in European Credit Transfer points, used for higher education study. Some time in the future you might want to cash these in and top up to complete study of a level 7 degree. From 2013 anyone working in in FE/PLC teaching will need a teaching qualifcation, therefore a degree - Teaching Council is saying L7 is OK for FE. So if this was ever a possible future career option for you - teaching beauty therapy, your HND study will have had some value.

The College won't be able to assist you as it is down to the certification bodies - ITEC and CIBTAC. In Ireland the industry looks for ITEC, CIBTAC and CIDESCO - they are also recognised internationally and are more accepted outside of the UK than a HND is. But as the previous poster pointed out you might be able to top up your HND to a degree in future years.

    hi guys
thanks so much for all the help!!cant believe ITEC CIBTAC and CIDESCO are more widely accepted because the only reason i did an HND was because i thought it was the highest possible qualification i could get!!ah well but i do want to teach it at some stage in the future so thats good!!

If you want to teach in the Republic of Ireland then you need to check out the qualifications that the Dept of Ed and Skills have stated as necessary - they include ITEC, CIBTAC and CIDESCO and post qualification experience. These qualifications were identified instead of a degree since there was no degrees available at the time in the Republic so they focused on the industry requirements.
