Where is my reception gone??

    Hi,

Weird one to say the least, moved into an apartment in Dublin 8 where the previous tenants had UPC as there TV provider. When we moved in i tried connecting a "Coax to F" plug from the UPC branded wall box into the TV & to my delight got 18 channels.... Seemed to good to be true but continued working for 2 or 3 weeks.

Went away last weekend & when i came home there was no reception, just 17 channels of fuzzzzzz & a really bad picture of RTE One.

Any ideas or tips on what I could try?

The other thing is SKY have installed a shared dish in the complex, & I wouldn't mind using a Freesat box if anyone knows how i could connect into that, but just don't want a 12 month SKY or NTL contract as im only going to be here for 6 months...

    All help gratefully appreciated,

    Thanks :confused::confused::confused:

    You could pay for it.

Hi tinyj, you could try contacting UPC,explain your situation and say you will pay for the six months of service?
    they will sometimes do deals.

bit surprised at Watty thanking a sarcastic post when he is such an advocate of Freesat?

the recession does not seem to have affected some people.

i think people who are lucky enough to get something for free and refuse to watch it on moral grounds must be walking Saints!

it should be up to UPC to ensure there is no 'theift' of their service not the lucky user!

also the many posts by many posters as to how to watch the UK's Freeview, which was never intended for Ireland(when Ireland is defined by the 26 counties)

Where is the sarcasm in my post? The op does not pay for UPC so it was cut off.

Recession or not you shouldn't be expecting a pay service for free.

I currently receive Polsat television for free. Purely because they haven't switched it off. When they do switch it off I wont be looking for any ideas or tips on how to activate it again.

UPC have ensured that there is no theft of service in this case

Even if you want Freesat, you do have to pay something to use a Shared Dish in an apartment.

It should be pointed out also that Freesat consists of FTA channels and EU law says it is not illegal for anyone to receive FTA broadcasts.

    Yes.

But I don't know why you quoted me.

Apartments generally charge some sort of maintence fee for shared aerial and/or dish. The decent ones it's not much and part of other annual management charges.

The Rip Off Managment Companies charge as much as €10 a month to enable your wall socket.

Obviously Apartments vary and some allow people their own dish/Aerial, which is a once off cost for Freesat and Saorview.

I pushed the wrong button. No need for you to be alarmed.

Hi Minstrel 27,thank you for your comprehensive reply.
i fully except your word that you were not being sarcastic.
one line answers on forums and no use of Smileys/emocians often throw me tbh.(i blame twitter for one line replys becoming popular!:))

not to be pedantic but i know of case's were people had free UPC for over six months when they moved into an apartment and the previous tenant had not cancelled.
UPC cut them off when it suited them!

i know of good payers who got a bit behind and were cut off rapidly by UPC when it suited them!

i know of a Sky customer whom UPC needed to place ugly booster box's on the side of their house,in return they have the Max Pack for life for free.
they also have a UPC +box and a standard box for free because it suited them!

have to say though the woman of the house is quite fomidable and could sell sand to Egypt!:)
