    Hi,

Was just changing my GFs tire and the nut snapped in half when trying to loosen it. It has its NCT on Wednesday, so just quickly, anyone know how big a job this is to repair and rough costs etc..

    Thanks in advance for replies
    Chris

Just get a new nut. Unless you mean the bolt broke?

Its the bolt (Lug), sorry I'd be some man for one man if I manged to break a nut.

Its a 01 Yaris. Just looking around the web, look like I can just can a new lug and replace the old one easily enough.

Yup its a cheap and quick enough fix, the studs are only a couple of euro from Toyota.

May not get to a Toyota tomorrow, but there I pass three different motor factors going and coming from work.

Do you think they would supply them?

Sprayed the remaining one to wd40 to loosen them up and tried to remove another one and it broke, What a ****ing disaster, any idea on how to get these ****ers off without breaking another one?

I didn't even use too much force this time round..

Obviously whoever put the wheels on last cross threaded the nuts.

Motorfactors would be unlikely to do them, studs/nuts are usually only available from a dealer.

    Thanks,

Finally got the wheel off, they weren't cross threaded but very hard, even taken the wheel off once the remaining two nuts where off was almost impossible.

Anyway looking at it now the front wheel had disc brakes, I never even tried to remove them before, and wouldn't even know where to start.

If they were hard to get off, even when they were loose, then the threads are still damaged.

    Ok Thanks,

Down to toyota tomorrow to get four new Lugs and Bolts, hopefully they would charge too much, just need to find a video for removing the disc brakes

    Thanks Again

If you can't get near a Toyota garage visit a local scrapyard get a few bolts and wheel nuts, they'll charge feck all too. Try not to panic. Good luck. Youtube has lots of videos with that info.

On a Yaris, from memory you only need a 14mm and a 17mm spanner or rachet/socket to remove the caliper and carrier.

    Thanks Lads,

Found a a couple of great videos, looks simple enough, I have a full socket set so I'll have the correct size. I will let you know know it goes.

I reckon its another case of piss poor service from a tyre centre. These days they just fcuk the nuts back on to our wheels at massive torque with those dam air guns. It's a serious problem especially for people who find themselves trying to change a wheel on the side of the road.

Thats the thing, I done this outside my house and we have the two cars... I can only imagine if it was the side of the road.

The tyre center I go to I've always used, I find them the best in Cork City. The other wheels where OK, because I've removed two tonight and the other was perfect, a little bit of force to loosen and then the nuts came off by hand.

I'm actually bringing my own car to get four tyres tomorrow so I'm going to say it to them.

    Ok,

So just got the Lugs and Bolts that I need in Toyota Dealer. Finger crossed this will be simple. Considering how difficult it was to get the other Nuts and Wheel off I think this is going to be a balls of a job. Hopefully a good of spray of wd40 and a couple of knocks with a hammer and the broken ones will pop out.

Looks like it might be difficult to pull the new ones through or will the process of putting the wheel on resolve this issue and pull the new lugs through?

I've the Brakes off and I can't remove the Rotor/Disc. Its a bit tight. How can this is taken off without breaking anything else?

Can I used a hammer to try and knock the thing off?

Had to get a mechanic down the road to call up today and fix it. Couldn't figure out how to remove the Disc. Anyway, its gone for the NCT now so at least I made it.

    Thanks again for the help
