Ford Fiesta V Mazda 2

Hi everybody, I was wondering if anyone could help me……I am looking to buy a new car and after a lot of deliberating I have narrowed it down to two choices the Mazda 2 Sport (1.3 84PS) or Ford Fiesta Titanium (1.25 82PS). They are both petrol, tax band A & B respectively, and have a pretty similar spec & MPG. As I qualify for scrappage the both work out in and around the same price.

I really just want to know which is the better car; are there are any common problems /faults; how did they drive in the snow and ice etc. I have been saving for a long and this is a huge amount of money to me – I will be driving this car for at least 5 years so I really want to make the most informed choice possible. Driving wise I do clock up a bit of mileage but its mainly city & potholed back roads of north county Dublin as apposed to long stretches of motorway.

This is very much a head over heart decision for me - otherwise I’d be looking at a DB9!!

Any help would be greatly appreciated - Thank you

An obvious question, but what makes you want to buy new with your hard earned savings? Finance I'd understand, but buying it with savings doesn't make economic sense.

I'm not buying outright - I will have to finace some of it. I have carefully considered the options and this makes the most financial sense for my current circumstances

Probably not much between em, I prefer the look of the Mazda but the Fiesta is more likely (IMO) to appeal to Average Joe when you are selling it.

absolutely fiesta, always much more saleable at 5 years old

Testdrive both. Both are very good cars, and neither are likely to give any trouble. You can't make a bad call really with either one.

They are pretty much the same car underneath the different styling and badges. Fiesta is more popular and probably easier to sell on in a few years down the road. Fiesta also has a better package and a more comprehensive range.

I really like the new Fiestas... And agreed with what others have said, you should be able to get more money for the Fiesta in a few years to come...

I've been in both of them but the problem is when you get out of my old bone rattler anything with power steering seems amazing!! I'm going to test drive them back to back this weekend and see how I get on..... hopefully there will be a clear winner :) Thanks for all your comments

i reckon go for the ford. ford throw their cars at mazda to have a go, and ford spot any issues with the platform, then release their revised version of the car between 6 months and 2 years later. eg mazda 3 => focus series 2, 1995 mazda 121 => ford fiesta series 4.
