Go Launcher EX, Go Contacts, Go SMS, Go Weather.

Wow... where'd these guys come from? Some fantastic apps and all free. Genuinely, does anyone know more about the developers? Wondering how / why they manage to create such quality apps for free.

The launcher has a fantastic app drawer, totally re-worked and works a lot like the home-screens on iOS with drag and drop to re-order, side-swiping pages and folders. And the Contacts / Dialer app is a great improvement on the stock options. Very impressed.

look like really great apps, but need to sort out the facebook integration before i will change over to their dialler.

looks 10 times better than dialler one

I use gosms. Never used the rest. Must have a proper look although I get stuck in me ways so probably wont like the launcher

First heard about them when they were beta testing Go SMS(I think) over on XDA.
never knew theyd released a weather one though. Its really nicely done!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,488 ✭✭✭Goodshape

Yeah, the weather app is very nice. Has temperature icon in the notification bar and weather info in the notification drop-down. And the app itself is very slick.

I'd been using Launcher Pro for ages and thought I was fairly stuck on that, but after seeing the app drawer on Go Launcher I just couldn't do without it :). It doesn't have the Launcher Pro widgets but aside from that the rest of it is very similar.

Going to give it a shot now thanks OP, like the released themes aswell ;)

Nope. Just download from the Market.

Some great apps there. Installed all four to give them a goo.

I've installed, so far it looks very nice. One problem though, it doesn't seem to allow you to choose different widget styles. I need my calendar to be on-screen but in choosing the stock calendar it just shows a small widget with todays date and one upcoming task. Any ideas how to get the full event list?

Thats the stock Calendar widget. You need to use the sense launcher to use HTCs or get a different one from the market. Im using Pure Calender (The List one, not the grid)

I see. So using this properly would mean having to install a bunch of new apps and widgets? My phone is already full on memory so I don't think I'd be able to do that, at least not without uninstalling a lot of things.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 51,054 ✭✭✭✭Professey Chin

For the Go one youd need new widgets. The pro version of LauncherPro has the kind of widgets you need

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,893 ✭✭✭The_B_Man

I tried using the launcher last week. Lasted a cupla days and had to go back to LauncherPro. Didnt like the App drawer at all. Too iPhoney!

Might have a look at the other ones and see what they're like though.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 55,571 ✭✭✭✭Mr E

Just installed the set last night, and after a half hour I was hooked. I've uninstalled LauncherPro and Dialler One. Very slick for a free application suite.

Easily changed to the old vertical format in the settings.

I love the Go Launcher with the backyard theme!

I tried chomp last night, then went back to handcent but now I'm using Gosms.

I thought the horizontal / pages view offers the best of both worlds. iOS home screens suck as home screens... but as an app drawer they're perfect. Easy to manage and easy to find things ("it's on page 2" is easier than "it was about 1/3 down, last time I saw it").

Although I've got mine set-up into 3 neat rows of folders now, so no scrolling either way :)

I use Go SMS. Tried the launcher but preferred Launcher Pro. The weather widget wasn't great either,Fancy Widget Pro is still the king of weather apps in my book.:)

I've been using Go Launcher and I like its aesthetics. But it doesn't seem to recognise when I have headphones plugged in to the phone  when playing a song the music comes out of the phones speakers still.

Been using all four of the apps for a few days now.
I think I've found a bug in the GO Contacts app.

A lot of my contacts have multiple numbers. Mobile, Home, Work etc.
One of the numbers is always set as default.
However no matter what I've tried, the number showing as default in the contacts list will be the last number listed under that particular contact.
It's as if GoContact is ignoring the default number.

    Any one having this problem?

Cianos, try resetting(turn on and off) your phone to get the headphones working. This happened to me before.

Using all of them now for the last week.

Very impressed and happy with the setup :)

Yeah I think I know what you're getting at. One of my contacts has a home number and mobile number but home comes up as the default whereas I want the mobile number to be the default.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 5,019 ✭✭✭ct5amr2ig1nfhp

Yep... that's pretty much it. I'm glad it's not just me!

I can fixed it temporarily - if I unmark the default number and then set it again as default. But eventually it'll revert to taking the last number in the list as the default number. It's a strange one alright.

Edit: Another Update out in the last couple of days. Just installed and it looks like the issue is fixed.

No it wasnt the direction of it, it was just the look of it. Looked cheap and tacky, or more low-res than normal. Much prefer the look and feel of launcherpro, with its built in sense widgets.

There are other themes available though. I like the 'Classic' theme.

I was using the backyard theme but now I'm using the sketch theme. In time, I'll probably change to the cartoon theme!

That just means its requested permissions have been changed so you have to go into it to update. Think its because of the new facebook chat plugin

I'm a big fan of Go Contacts, best alternative I've seen to the HTC Sense People App. Will have a play with Launcher for a while.

How the SMS app stack up with Handcent?

Have been using GO SMS Pro for the last few days, not a huge difference compared to Handcent but I'll probably stick with it to support the guys from GO, now using their Contacts, Dialer, Launcher and SMS apps.

If google did a deal with these guys it might improve the stock android experience enough to negate the need for proprietary UIs.

I suppose I'm a fan of themes and the few that GoSMS Pro have are much better than the loads than Handcent have. There's just something neater about it.

I also like having the Go Contact, Dialer and SMS with their matching icons on my dock bar! :D

Just started using go today, have dialer and sms so far.

Is it possible to make "mobile" the default number automatically every time you add a contact?

Is there any update on the scrolling widgets? I'm on ADWlauncher and the calendar widget is only showing one event from today, the one I had on Sense before you could see the agenda and scroll through all upcoming events, but to do this in ADW, you need to click into the calendar

The number prediction stopped working once or twice, it wasn't showing up matching results for the numbers I was typing in. Has anyone experienced this?

Can the weather widget display the clock in the same way the HTC sense clock widget could, as in, upcoming weather plus when you click into it, you get options for stopwatch, countdown timer etc?

    Any feedback appreciated :)

    Another 2 questions:

on froyo, I had handscent and loved the way if I got a text, the led would be a permanent blue until I read it. I checked this option in go sms too but it doesn't seem to be working at all. I tried flash on at 300ms and then off at 0, I also tried at 300/300 and it didn't seem to flash at all.

Also, with the weather widget, I'm getting notifications if it tried to update and there's no connection, on sense with froyo, the weather widget just updates automatically when it could, it didn't give notifications if it couldn't. Is there any way to stop the notifications?

    Running CM7 on Desire.

    More :o

I'm using GO SMS and unfortunately I'm still having an issue sending group messages, I've the option to seperate each message to each person into its own thread, sent a small group text, only to maybe 10 people yesterday and it split it into 4 separate threads, only 4 separate contacts who I sent it to as opposed to the 10, so where did the other 6 go? I couldn't check delivery status or anything.

I updates Go Dialer and it installed go Dialer EX, a new app altogether, I then uninstalled "Go Dialer", With GO Dialer EX and also I experienced it with Go Dialer too, I assume it's because I've over 1,900 contacts, but it freezes quite a lot if I'm going through my contacts/groups/adding new etc. Also you can't see the individual times of consecutive missed calls from one contact and if you have a missed call notification in the notification bar, clicking the notification used to clear the notification and bring you to the missed call screen, now it just brings you to the missed call screen but you have to go back to the notification menu to "clear" the notification, again, this didn't happen in sense and clicking to see the missed calls also cleared the notification. I also miss being able to just open up the dialer, press call on a blank field and it would call the last dialled, also with the way the call log is, I don't like that it groups the contacts together, I much prefer being able to see a log based on time only. Also by grouping the contacts together, you can't just click on a recent called contact and it will go to phone them immediately as you could with sense.

I use Go Launcher, Go Dialer, Go Launcher EX, Go SMS Pro and Go Weather.
All do what I want them to do (normal day to day use).

Do you have over 1900 contacts with phone numbers? I don't need to see email addresses and facebook people when I'm trying to find a number. I have my list filtered to the 190 or so that just have numbers - makes it much more manageable.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,570 ✭✭✭Squeeonline

I think I use them all too. Waiting for a full calendar app replacement, though the stock one isn't too bad.

Started using Golauncher recently, had ADWex before. Hard to pick a favourite. but Go was free, whereas I paid for ADWex.

Fantastic apps. Devs should be working for google!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20,844 ✭✭✭✭cormie

Thanks for the replies, yep, the 1900 contacts are all mobile numbers, it's a work phone. Have also noticed a bug in go sms where a different contact name could appear in someone elses text, which happened before with Handscent on froyo, was hoping it would have been fixed. I wonder is it go, or a bug with android itself that's causing this.

A new user of Go SMS Pro here.

Does anyone know if you're charged for doodles? Or sending images?
I know they appear as a link for the recipient so I guess you're not charged?

And is the charge for an SMS just like using the default SMS application.

    thanks
    m

I think it would be considered an MMS - if the other user also uses GO SMS you can use GO SMS CHAT with is like a free chat link between you both over your 3G or WiFi connection.. then the doodles and Emjoi emoticons show up for both (I use this with my friend regularly)

I use Go SMS Pro, Go Launcher, Go Keyboard... they are all amazing. I had Touchpal for a few weeks but it would freeze on a letter regularly and then delete the word I was typing and I'd have to bring the keyboard back on screen as it'd disappear (so annoying!)

    Must try the weather app!

Also - there are free themes to download for GO SMS pro under "DIY Themes" they are awesome!
