Hi, I'm thinking about studying medicine at NUIG, providing I get the points I would be doing pre-med, I'm just wondering if you have done, or know anyone who has done pre-med and what the timetable is like, roughly what time you finish up in the evenings and how early you start? Is there much time to socialise? I would like to join a sporting society, maybe rowing, is this plausible given the workload (if any) ?

Hi i don't do medicine, but I know people who do... They spend plenty of time socialising and working, but i'm sure you need great stamina for that

Doing science first is a good idea as its less of a work load and by the time you enter medicine you will have a more rounded idea of science within medicine...

I think I was told by a pre-med student before that they had around 28-ish hours a week.
Tbh I dont think the workload is massive in pre-med

I did pre-med last year. We had 20 or so hours per week, started around 9 or 10 and finished anytime between 12 and 5. You'll have plenty of free time to socialise and play sports. The workload is fairly easy and the lectures are easy to catch up on.

Friend of mine is doing pre-med,he says they're always out and have plenty of time to themselves. Says that the year after and the rest of the course is insanely hard.

Yeah, Its a good old course! I did the old version 6 year course, but was rowing in the club this year with a lad doing pre-med. He tells me it is very good. Not too challenging, and left enough time for training and socialising.
The rowing club there also has a good work ethic, and I would recommend it as a club. Have to say that it really compliments the whole college lifestyle. As long as you're not baiting it off home on a Friday.

Hey I don't do medicine but my neighbour does so I know a good bit from her.

! In semester one you'll have Biology, Chemistry, Physics and a subject called Early Patient Care (I think that's what it's called) Judging by my friend you learn how to take blood pressure, listen to people's chests etc and you get a case study on a patient along with a group project

In semester 2 the same subjects are studied but insstead of Early Patient Care ye do Anatomy!

Timetable wise it's almost the exact same as undenominated science as you share Biology, Chemistry and Physics lectures with them.

Also you're talking about 25 hours or so including lectures and labs

    Hopes this helps! :)
