Opinions on Iomega media players?

I'm thinking of getting a new external disk and I'm considering going for one of the Iomega media players, as that would allow me to play media directly on a TV. There are two out there that have caught my eye:

    ScreenPlay Director

    and

    ScreenPlay MX

Can't find any reviews out there, so does anyone out there have one or know someone who does? How does it perform?

    Hi,

I have the Screenplay Director. Im very happy with it. Got a 1TB one which is good if you intend to store alot of movies and photos on it. The one thing I dont like about it is that it takes a while for it to boot up when you switch it on. Other than that it is great. Dont know anything about Screenplay MX.

Don't get the Screenplay Plus HD as this just upscales & cannot play mkv files (most 720p HD content).
I have a Screenplay Director but I barely use it anymore since I bought a new TV that can play all formats directly off a USB stick.

I bought a Dane Elec HDMI SO Speaky media player but it wont play MKV films which I was given has anyone got a easy method for converting them to a different format. I down loaded a free convertor software but it took 4 hours to convert the one file and it still did not play.

You could try re-packaging them in another format like mp4, mt2s.

Either of these 2 appz might work a little magic for you

Mind you, this is all provided the DaneElec kit can play h264 media?

It doesnt support H.264, so remuxing will not work.

Your best bet is to convert the video stream to Xvid.

    Use the AVI container.

It looks like the max resolution is 720x576 so if your video is higher resolution you will need to downscale.

It seems to support most common audio codecs, so leave the audio be if possible (don't convert it).

Handbrake used to be popular but they have pretty much dumped Xvid on account of it being obsolete. Try Mediacoder instead. And use a short sample first to get your settings right and save wasting hours.

If you have a lot of MKVs, consider getting a better media player. You can still use the existing one as a HDD.
