Wondering if many are doing the total experience adventure race next weekend, i was thinking of sports clas, keen to get out and about now in the fine weather but can't figure out the distances, not much detail on the website

I did the sport class a few years ago and it was good fun. You do it in teams of two or four. It's not like any of the other 'adventure' races, it's not marked, you will need to be able to navigate and the bike is offroad, so better to use an mtb. best thing to do is e-mail the organizer for more info.

In proper adventure races you're usually not told the course until just before the start of the race. You'll just know roughly how long you'll be out for, and maybe rough distances, or breakdown by discipline, if the organisers release that information.

That's all part of the fun. The navigational aspect wouldn't be as challenging if you knew the course too far in advance.

The TEAR race is one of the best in Ireland. Very strongly recommend, if you can get an entry.

Great race, have done it last two years - fun mystery challenges crop up as part of the course such as having to eat a loop to loop quickly before being allowed to proceed and archery etc. Definately one to do - less slog and more fun then the marked adventure races such as Galeforce

Thats because GaelForce et al are not actually adventure races

Just wanted to say - this was an absolutely FANTASTIC race :D
So much more fun than the marked trails although I felt a lot more wrecked the following day I reckon from trying to run(jog) on the mountain with no paths.

My only problem with these type of races is you have to have another 1-3 people to enter. I can see why, but its not always easy to find a suitable (really slow) partner in crime ;)

Thats where you need a tow rope, not sure if thats the correct word for it but have seen it in adventure races where the strongest team members pulls the other along ..obviously not for the whole race but if certain sections are proving difficult and a member of the team is falling behind. Sounds like it was a great race and pretty close in terms of finish times as well.
