Is there any GUI application for managing random access media in Linux?

Such things as wiping, checking, formatting and so on, are what I have in mind.

I have tried most - or maybe all - the disc burning packages I could find and none have any facility for managing Random Access media.

For instance Brasero has the choices
    Audio Project
    Data Project
    Video Project
    Disc Copy
    Burn Image

    and that is all.
Even K3b - probably the 'big daddy' of Linux burning apps has nothing to help.
I even tried Nero for Linux and ....... nada.

There used to be a package for KDE3 but that has not been ported to KDE4 and so is not usable in any modern distro. Even that one had its problems, but at least someone was trying.

To be clear ...... I am not looking for a burning application.
I am looking for an app that will format, write a fs, check and so on, random access media, so that it is set up for use on insertion, just like a slow HDD or large floppy.

It needs to be able to handle DVD+RW and DVD-RAM media.

    Thanks for any further suggestions.

    regards.

Did you look inside the tools menu in Brasero? There is a blank and check integrity option on there.

Not entirely sure about using the discs as a mountable FS though.

I really did not want to ruin a DVD-RAM disc if Brasero thought it was something else ...... there is no indication at all that it can handle random access media. :(

I used a DVD+RW, which had a UDF FS on it ...... blanked it with Brasero and wrote the FS to it using the command line.

I don't have an unused disc, so cannot be sure that this would be successful if there was no UDF FS on the disc previously.

It is a bit like working in the dark ..... not certain what is happening. I would probably prefer to do it all using command line, rather than be so unsure of what is happening.

A GUI app to do it, with full feedback is badly needed.

I just cannot find such an app ......
