Any suggestions of a nice place to go to in either France or Spain for a week/10 days with a 5 month old?
Am dying for a bit of sunshine!
Was thinking of taking the ferry to brittany but it takes ages,
Would love a nice place with a pool or near a beach
    Any suggestions would be great
    thank you!

We went to Salou with our young kids. Falcon holidays had a selection of places geared towards kids. Although a 5 month old kid won't know the difference.

Salou also has Port Aventura theme park, which should have more than enough to keep kids occupied (Though I'm not good with ages, so I don't know what a 5 month old can or can not do in regards to theme parks).

A 5 month old can sit in a buggy and watch whats going on in a theme park :D

Took our 7 week old last year to Spain we also have a 12 and 9 y/o. Flights to Alicante and rented a two bed apartment in Cabo Roig. Was pretty hot for the 2 weeks but we had her in the shade the whole time, got one of those all in one swim suits and took her into the poola few times a day. Went to the beach once but it was hard to keep her cool. I am thinking of the same place again this year but she will be walking now and that could be fun but again if there is plenty shade it will be fine. I wouldnt take a baby to a theme or water park as they are generally sun traps.

Very brave of you heading abroad with a child that young. Only brought my 6 year old to england this year and thought that was enough with the travel. We have brought the kids down to clare and galway last few summers and they have had a great time. Not a sunshine lover so doesn't bother me but its great having the car and not worrying about flights.

would highly recommend one of the many caravan parks in western france. From experience can recommend Le Bois Maisson in St Jean de Monts. we brought our 3 month old there a couple of years back. YThe reason for here is that its not too far south to be too hot, its on the coast so a nice breeze and there's lots of stuff to do. also great baby pool for splashing about in. You can see more details on the parks on siblu.co.uk or else look at any of the other parks through keycamp or other irish operator.

In fairness kids that young are no problem on sun holidays , sleep on the plane just like the car and the security in the Airports have no problem with baby bottles being over the restricted size for fluids. I would recommed again to get an apartment I used these guys before. They organise transfers form the airport to the apartment for a fraction the price of the local Taxis, most importantly they will stop at the major supermarket en route so you can fill the boot with shopping. I think they charge about 50e each way from Alicante with is a 45 min drive and less again from Murcia. If you have a baby get an apartment with a washing machine to save you packing loads for the wee one, trust me we had one last year and it was the business. Nappies can be got locally too I cannot remember the make but there is a brand that are better quality than pampers imo so again less packing. Get the baby swim pampers before you go to be sure.
I have stayed in apartment hotles / resorts but with a baby you would be cramped so better for a nice apartment that you dont mind sitting in during the hot part of the day and the baby can roll about in also a quiet clean pool, Beach wouldnt be a great idea as baby will be eating sand the whole time. Tell them you need a cot so they will have a travel cot for you in the apartment waiting.

I dont know anything about the camping holidays as mentioned above but have never heard anyone complain about them.

Although the Ferry from Rosslare to Roscoff is a long trip, the majority of it, is whilst you're in bed, so it's really not that bad, to be honest.

I can highly recommend Domaine de Kerlann, which is a 4* Siblu Mobile Home Park in Brittany, about a 90 mins drive away from Roscoff.

We've been twice (Sep 2009 & May 2010) and are going back again at the end of May.

Another tip would be to look for Private Owners at the Park, as you can save hundreds of Euro by booking with a Private Owner, instead of with Siblu themselves. By doing this, you'll already see the Mobile Home you'll be using, rather than being allocated a Mobile Home and it being "Pot Luck", as to the age and condition of the Home.

You do need to buy your own "Fun Passes" to use the Swimming Pools & Kids Clubs, but even taking this into consideration, you still save loads of money.

Feel free to PM me if you want any info.

    Thanks

    Dave

We went to salou last september with our 1 year old. Didn't bother with a theme park as she wouldn't have got anythign out of it. Most days were spent chilling by pool for an hour, then off for a little walk on beach/promenade. Beach has little swings and the like. Locals very accomodating to kids too which helped

Apartment is definitely the way to go as you'll have microwave/hobs etc for heating bottles etc.

I took my daughter to Thailand when she was 6 months old with no problem. Kids are more versatile than we think!

Villas or apts with washing machines are a great idea though.
