We got engaged in NYC a week ago and I now have both the ring and the man of my dreams :D We have all the certs for the diamond and it was valued in NYC. I would like to get it valued over here, does anyone know where you can get this done in the west? Will any jeweler do this for you? Also I plan to add the ring onto our house insurance, does anyone know if insurance companies accept valuations from the us? Thanks in advance, this is a whole new world I knew nothing about!

    Congrats...

First off - be careful as lots of insurance companies won't insure a ring over a certian value.
Ask them first if they will accept the US $ valuation. Reason is, European valuations are generally higher - which is good news / bad news...

Good News - your ring is worth sooo much more:-)
Bad News - you will pay an higher premium each year, and some companies won't insure the ring. You may need to get a safe installed also.

If not, then there is one company I know of - Precious ?? - which is on College Green in Dublin who do excellent valuation work. Highly recommend them.

We did the same thing in NY a week ago :)

When I rang up to put the ring on the contents insurance, they said we didn't need to show anything now, but if we were making a claim we'd just have to show our US reciepts.

That is nonsence that an Insurers wont cover the ring over a certain value. Any Insurer will take it on board. You have to specify it on the policy as 'specified all risks'. You are better off sending them in a valuation first too. Yoru premium will go up though.
You may need a safe installed is not true either. Where would she install it? On her hand?

Yeah, this seems to be an area that divides people. OH is of the opinion that if someone is going to rob it they will just rob the safe instead.

Many thanks for all your replies

    Congratulations :D

I rang my local jewellers at home (I'm in the UK) and they said they wouldn't value a ring less that 2 years old, that my reciept should just be converted into our currency and that's enough :(
