Windows 7 major problems

I'm running windows 7 64 and have started experiencing major problems over the last few days.

To start, windows media player has not been running properly for months. I don't use it that much so didn't bother looking for a solution. There were also problems with internet explorer. Now I can't run a scan with Malwarebytes, Superantispyware, or spybot. Also the folder views are not automatically refreshing so when I delete a file from a folder it wont disappear until I hit the F5 key.

    Anyone know the likely cause?

Sounds like malware. Try booting into safe mode and running malwarebytes.

Try running spybot as a portable app. Should identify if you have problems.

Thanks all for your help. It seems it was hardware related, due to some sort of fault with my dvd drive and windows having trouble accessing it. I disconnected it and everything is working ok again.
