How much oil does your car burn in a year.

1996 BMW 520 with 163000mls on the clock. While changing the oil today I realised I hadnt had to top up in the whole year since the last oil change, nearly 9,000mls ago. The level on the stick was near the bottom marker which means I burnt only 1ltr max in the whole year. Not bad for a 15 year old car.

My 96 micra daily driver has done 6,000 miles in the last 3 months and it hasn't used anything worth mentioning. Its only got 79k on it though..

Last oil change on my mx5 was about 5k ago. Still at full. Check every week and never any change. Only thing i ever really need to top up is windscreen washer.

My 76 e24 none in 5000 miles a year or not enough to need topping between yearly changes

My modern diesel about a litre per 10000 miles

I change the oil yearly or when the 5k mileage is up, which ever comes sooner, Keeping the oil changed regularly is good for the engine and not too expensive. Although as I spend longer and longer times away from home, Ireland is fast becoming only a holiday destination for me!

i change my oil every 8000 kilometers (5000 miles) with castrol edge 5w30. it doesn't even drop from the full mark on the dipstick between changes.

2001, 1.5 vitz, 135,000 kilometers (around 80,000 miles) on the clock

yes my oil changes are frequent, but this car needs to last a long time :D

about 0.25 liters every 6-7000 km ...and then it gets changed

I don't really need to check the oil, I can hear when it needs changing :D

I also change oil every 5000 miles or 6 months so little to no drop in oil level.

I think I can too, could hear a top end light tapping on my E34 when on tickover at lights. Wonder if theres some oil channel blocked, got me thinking the oil might be thinning out or too low and knew it was overdue a fresh drop.

The 1.6 8 valve Leon I had until recently never used a drop of oil between services and had 120k up on it. Switched to a 2 litre diesel now and it can't make it's mind up whether it wants oil. When I dip it one side of the dipstick shows it down slightly and the other says it's full. It's done about 11k km since it's last service an is due one soon so will be keeping a close eye on it until then. Never seen anything like it. Have a bottle of Castrol Edge 5w30 in the boot just in case.

My 1996 1.3 fiesta - havent topped up for the last 6 months or about 8k miles. Shes got 110k on the clock, so i'd reckon thats good for a 15yr old car.

If I left the 1.4 Golf for a year without checking the oil, I'd need a new engine. It's nowhere near the 1 litre per 1000 km specified in the manual but it needs checking every week.

I carry a 1L bottle in the boot to be safe.

With my yoke it's that it just generally sounds rougher, older, more worn ...if that makes sense.
Being a diesel it collects quite a bit of soot in the oil so the oil gets thicker over time. The difference in engine note after an oil change is quite noticeable.

Had a 95 corolla with 230k miles on it that used a litre every 1500miles. Scraped it, and not a day too soon!
Have a 94 corolla now with 165kmiles that hasnt used a drop in 3500 miles so im hoping it continues like that!

I have a 03 Laguna with 249k miles and there doesn't seem to be any oil usage between oil changes. It never needs topping up, I can't detect any drop in the level on the dipstick etc. I change the oil every 10k miles.

I can't remember the last time we had a car old or new that needed topping up between oil changes.

My little 1.4l Puma uses 1l of oil every 500 or so miles.
And I've been doing that since the past year, since I got it and it just keeps going. Haven't noticed any drop in performance or anything as such. Just keep regularly topping up the oil.

Not sure about a year, but my Escort will consume about a litre every 1-2k miles.
