Does a mod slow a bullet down?

Guys was talking to a guy earlier about stalking. I dont know him that well so not so sure how reliable his info is but he said he did not use a mod on his 270 because it slowed the bullet down too much That is news to me, any truth to it?

i don't think thats true. i've used my rifle with and without the mod and the drop is always the same either way. maybe he thinks this because when you put on a mod the bullet will hit lower, but this is because it changes the weight of the barrel and how it vibrates when fired, not because of any change in velocity.
think about it. a mod doesn't contact with the bullet at all, it only catches the gas leaving the barrel, so how can it possibly slow the bullet down?

Shooting-supplies.eu have the chrony models starting at 82 euro plus postage.

We put a little ase cqb on a 243 once. We thought that it actually increased muzzle velocity. Our approach was less than scientific.
