The back wall of my fireplace is after crumbling and a hole has appeared in it. Obviously it will have to be repaired but in the meantime can I still light a fire in it or would it be considered dangerous?

has the wall or just the firebrick crumbled: I suspect its the firebrick which will have to replaced, repair not an option.

I'm not sure of the difference between the firebrick and wall to be honest to be honest. It seems I can see the wall behind the fireplace where the hole is.

I can post a pic ok but it won't be till tomorrow. Thanks for the reply.
