Saw an unpaid internship job for 4-5 months on jobs.ie
Sounds interesting. Wouldnt mind doing it i guess.

But, can I still collect the social welfare as its unpaid?

    thanks.

no as you need to be available to look for work and accept work if it comes up .

You can take up Voluntary work while in receipt of a jobseekers payment. Altough this is not exactly voluntary work you may get an exception if you still are genuiely seeking full time employment and if an offer of work came up while on this internship would be willing to except the job. The best thing to do is to go to your local office and have a V1 form filled out stating on it that it is an unpaid internship, ask them to consider it. The worse they can say is no, but at least you will have tryed.

Voluntay work will only be considered if it is with a registered charity.

This is not true, you can take up voluntary work in other organisations.

Yes but the other organisations would be local community group type organisations. Organisations helping sick and elderly. Youth groups.
The voluntary work option cannot be used for a replacement for cheap labour.
