Waiting for cars to leave spaces in a car park

This annoys me. I can't stand people who hold up queues of traffic while waiting for someone to leave a car space. Some people even do it when they know that they'll be holding up everyone for ages as the person going to exit the car space still has a load of shopping to put in the boot.

Drivers should should just keep driving around until they find a space that is empty. Not one that will be empty in 5 minutes. Either it's empty now or it isn't. If it's empty right now park in it. If it isn't empty keep driving.

At the expense of a free flowing car park for everyone.

This drives me bonkers too and I hate to say it but I find it's mostly women that do it. Even if I am parked somewhere and just going back to my car to get something out of it, at times I find I'm being eyed for the parking space before I've even opened the car door.

Waving them on seems to work. Even if you are going to leave shortly but would just like the peace to do it in your own time.

As a driver in the queue, it's really annoying if you can't get past and especially when in narrow car parks, otherwise I don't mind, it's just when people are inconsiderate/selfish wanting to get a space..

As a driver going back to my car and there's somebody waiting on me to leave, it's the most intimidating and pressuring thing! I wish people wouldn't do it..

I don't mind if somebody just stops to let a car reverse out though, that's just convenient for everyone

I don't mind people waiting for an imminent space as long as I have room to pass them in my quest for a spot. What I do object to is people who clearly can't park between two adequately spaced white lines therefore making the adjacent space difficult to park in.

I'm slightly in awe of the beautiful parking system they have in Dundrum shopping centre with the green lights above the vacant spaces. The best ideas are usually the simplest. Rather than people looking out for shoppers returning to their vehicles, they are merely looking for a green beacon directing them to an instantly available bay - Genius !

    ahhaha.

I tried waving someone on. Unlucky for me it was a blonde woman on her mobile. I was only going back to get something. I took the baby's bag out of the booth, closed it and she was still there. So I lock it and start to walk and she beeps. I turned to find her giving me the beady eye like I'd insulted her or something. She wasn't even nice looking so you wouldn't even give her one...

This kind of thing happens at my place of work as well. There are 2 different shifts there and the evening shift always park in the way when they day shift are trying to leave. They sometimes hold them up for 10 to 15 minutes just to try and get a parking space nearer the door. Its unbelievable that some people can be that lazy.

Its the sign of one right as*hole. mainly if there are cars behind them and he/she is blocking everyone up. Its the whole "they can wait on me" mentality. But suddenly, if roles were reversed and some other person was blocking them? ... they'd beep the horn and or be pis*ed off.

Especially when they are blocking the way to where there are several more spaces which just arent near enough to whever it is theyre going.

So ones (probably counterproductive) attempts at "saving petrol" leave half a dozen other engines running longer than they need to be.

    Technically that constitutes theft.

Technically theft?, yeah perhaps..... if an accomplice was sneaking around with a syphon tube while everyone else was focussed on getting enraged at the hold up.

I saw a study once that said it was usually faster and cheaper to drive to the quietest, farthest end rather than ponce about waiting.

But this is, after all, AH.

I was in a queue, took a spot at the back all the others ignored, got out, locked my car, and walked up to the store faster than the line of cars was moving. They went on doing more laps to find "better spots"

    I don't understand some people.

It's really irritating and lazy. Somebody did it to me today and actually beeped at me to hurry up putting my son in the car.

Of course, I then felt the instant need to search for something I lost in the boot (while smiling over at them) which unfortunately slowed things up to the extent that they had to find another space.

That's what I do. Still doesn't stop you from getting held up by people waiting for spaces unfortunately.

You should keep a hurley or baseball bat in the boot for those instances. They wouldn't be expecting it.

It was in the Square car park so any hard man act would be rumbled.

I'll try it in Dundrum. :)

The square! Oh that awful place? Gob****es would rather park on a footpath, a clearway, or, along double yellow lines (opp arts centre and path where blue bar is) yet if you go to the multi story, maybe not the first level but certainly a good chunk if the 2nd level is empty!!! Clowns...

People would actually park in the shop if they could.

We need car parking spaces with BMI sensors. The higher the BMI, you're not allowed to park near the shop entrance.

That's what I do. Drives me crazy (especially in a multi-storey car park with lots of available spaces) having to wait for someone who insists on laboriously manoeuvring into the first space they see rather than continue to a less busy area.

I reckon it's laziness -- they don't want to have to walk more than a few steps outside of the car. It's the primary motivation for irritating (and obnoxious) parking behaviours, IMO.

Try the Liffey Valley car park near the Cinema. This happens all the time there. They hawk around and follow people to their cars just to wait for the spot. The lower half of the car park is usually pretty empty and that would only be an extra hundred metres or so to walk but most people seem to be too lazy.
When I am on my own and walking to the car with someone snailing behind me looking for where I parked I sometimes open the passenger side door, "fetch" something from the glovebox and walk away from the car after locking it. Now that really grinds their gears........
And yes, I know that is childish :)

It teaches them a valuable lesson.

Incredibly stupid comment. Is it April 1st already?

Possibly a tongue-in-cheek comment, possibly not. Hardly fair to call it "incredibly stupid", and liable to lead to a response in kind...
