Just read in the papers that Eamonn Gilmore's daughter has been handed a "plum" job by the Attorney General. Despite only having 3 years experience she has been chosen over 100s of more experienced and qualified barristers. This hardly seems congruous with the "it's only fair" tripe Labour seemed so keen to push during the election campaign?

And you're shocked? Oh I'm sure she is qualified and good luck to her, but like you say bit of a coincidence alright. Meh Ireland before the Boom(tm) was more about who you knew, not always what you knew. The law as a career in this country is an utter and complete farce for that, no more than in the whole barrister gig. It has always been jobs for the boys(or girls). Hell some are proud of the old school tie "tradition". It'll go back to more of that in other arenas as the job market contracts like buggery. We're an incredibly nepotistic and cliquish society.

Rejoice in the awareness of feeling stupid, for that’s how you end up learning new things. If you’re not aware you’re stupid, you probably are.

Still though, very annoying that he's permitted to clog the media with his leftist bullsh** and still get away with this kind of thing.

Good point. Not that I doubt you but I can't find anything concrete. these are the only links I could find http://www.broadsheet.ie/2011/03/23/has-the-attorney-general-just-appointed-eamon-gilmores-daughter-to-defend-the-shell-gas-pipeline/ http://www.politics.ie/labour/156569-gilmore-corrib-gas-project.html it's starting to look like a hoax/windup.

Unless there's more to emerge about this story, it seems to me that the charge of cronyism is unfounded.

im just adding a thought into the works though: if she was qualified enough and the best candidate they happened to want - the media is gonna jump on it anyway cos cronyism is a nice headline. im not saying it was or it wasnt cronyism in this case. im talking about the way the media will jump on nanything and twist it

Grainne Gilmore, who qualified as a junior counsel in 2008 and is a specialist in environment law...

It sounds to me that she is qualified for the job, so why shouldn't she get it? Prove that she was not the most qualified applicant and then you'll have something.
