Hi,

Im thinking about starting an M.ed this year and im just wondering is there a difference in doing an online one as opposed to one where you attend classes. Is one recognised better than others?- online ones versus lecture taught masters? Im looking at the one in Mary i where u attend classes and an online one with the University of Ulster. I think id prefer the online one just because i could do it in my own time and wouldn't have to travel for lectures. Do principals prefer either or does it matter?

Well travelling to lectures in evening or weekends would put me off. I like the idea of being in control of when I study and DL is ideal. The OU has an M.Ed with a range of specialist strands - leadership, equality, curriculum etc. You get all your materials at your fingertips, no having to root around libraries - more dead time. The course also expects you to apply your learning to your own scene, so it's not just dry old theory. Hibernia also have an M.Ed. I think if I was going down the DL route I would look at the leaders in DL education first.

Look around, compare cost, what you get for your money, but do-ability is an important factor, how many hours in total would you have to study each week to keep pace? - ask that one of the providers.
