Expansys are selling an unlocked 8GB Palm Pre (first Gen) for €146.99 with postage at €14.40. This is a great price for a great little Smartphone. Has the usual specs of a Smartphone-WiFi, Bluetooth, full QWERTY keypad and Touch Screen, 3MP Camera with flash.

But the OS is what makes the phone, and is just fantastic. It's far from perfect but I've yet to use a device that multitasks as good as the Pre. And has a great hacking community.

Thanks for the link :) As the company is based in the UK would you end up getting stung by customs?

    Thanks,
    Jack

A dying breed already? Methinks so. If its not Apple ios, Google Android, or heck Windows Phone 7 then forget it IMO.

Instead consider buying an Orange San Francisco Android up north for £99 and unlocking.

It's very disappointing that there is a lack of Developer support for the Palm's/HP's WebOS. I really hope that changes with the HP takeover, and with the new devices out this year. Unfortunately the older Gen Pre's (ie this one) wont be getting updated anymore so any new Apps that are launched may be exclusive to newer devices.

I got a Pre solely to try something new. I had an iPhone and Android wasn't as appealing to me at the time so I decided to get the Pre. As there isn't many Pre users in Ireland, I have gotten some interested looks and comments from people about the phone. The iPhone and all Android phones are all fairly similar (as in they all have 3"+ Touchscreen that takes up most of the face of the device with one or two physical buttons). The slider QWERTY makes the Pre that bit different.

It would be a great buy for anyone looking for a secondary Smartphone.

Fair enough but isn't app development for that OS as good as dead?

As I stated above, there is very little Developer support for the OS. But it does offer some of the "essential" Apps like Facebook, Angry Birds etc.

App development will increase with new releases. Palm shot themselves in the foot when they restricted access to core functionality from developers and thought that internet style Widgets would suffice.

I wouldn't touch one. I bought one of these at launch. I went through 3 of them with O2. All of them have an buzzing issue where when not on 3G the radio interferers with the speaker on the phone. You get that noise you get when your phone is near speakers. Also the slider is very shoddy and the phone won't be upgraded to the latest WebOS when it comes out.
