    Hi new to Boards

I am on casual work and i sign yellow x's & o's slips.

Today I received a letter from the social with two forms. Up1B & Up1b.

First one asks who I live with, how much rent I pay etc

The second one requests my employer to fill out how much I have worked over the last 13 weeks. This is concerning me because I have lied a few weeks and said I didn't work one day when I did. I know I'm stupid & will never do it again as this form has really shaken me up.

To anyone not being honest with your yellow slips I advise you to be vigilant.

My question: is this a spot check? am I in lots of trouble? I reckon I am off by 6 or 7 days over the 13 weeks.

Has anyone else received this letter???
    What will happen?

It sounds to me that your jobseekers benefit will soon run out and you will have to be assessed for jobseekers allowance and I think its a up1b you got and a up16... sometimes you can requalify for jsb but it depends on the number of days you normally work... if you have no subloss e.g. you work 3 days as a normal work pattern you will not requalify so you will have to be means tested for jsa. What you were doing not declaring days worked is sw fraud...you will be docked for these days and will probably be investigated further... sw will probably ask your employer for you total work record over the time you have been on jsb. It never pays to defraud sw as it will always come back to bite you eventually.

    hi there,

i used to work with the casual dockets before i moved department.

dont worry too much, it seems they may just be doing a review to update their records which is normal. they may realise the discrepency and you will have to pay back the extra you claimed that you were not entitled to. or if you are on benefit, your benefit claim may be about to expire so the office is preparing for you to do a means test to see if you qualify for allowance which is means tested on your wages.

if you owe an overpayment you should receive notification in the post and agree on a weekly amount to pay back.

thats the trouble with the new dockets, previously they had to be signed and stamped by the employer so its effectively sending a blank cheque to people and in cases they may be in need of extra cash on certain weeks so let on they were not working to get a bigger cheque. all social welfare claims eventually get checked up on, especially casual, so its really best to be honest and dont claim what you are not entitled to.

at the end of the day, each docket signed is a declaration and it says in the small print that can be used in court if needs be, but if you only added an extra few days dont worry at all but be prepared to pay it back if the casual section are wise to it.
    :)

    * i mean dont worry about it now not to not worry about doing it in the future by the way! whats done is done, but as eastbono said it never pays to defraud sw, and fraud is fraud no matter the amount. a fright is a good learning experience!
even though social welfare so extremely busy, its also busy on controlling fraud.

That's exactly what I got, I was thinking my time was running out as I have been claiming for just over a year. I realise now it was not clever to lie over a day here and a day there .. I'm sure those odd days will cost me paying it back! I don't think the yellow slips are practical as it's so tempting. Thank you for replying and reassuring me I'm not goin to jail!!

Excatly I'm not trying to defend my actions but it is like a blank cheque, if I know something expensive is coming up the next week it's too easy to mistake an o from an x.

From now on I will be honest. I have well & truly learnt my lesson, 12 hours since I opened the letter, my face has been wrecked over this. Will update on my situation when I hear back.

Thanks for the replies & reassurance!!

Dont worry your not going to jail but you will have to pay back the overpayment and the full year will be checked out and tbh sw will be on your case from now on and will be sure to check with your employer the days you work so dont be tempted again. SW will come to an arrangement with you to take xx amount out of your payment every week. Technically sw are entitled to take you to court over a sw fraud offense but will seldom do so unless it is a large amount.

Thread locked as it is in relation to SW fraud. OP has received the correct advice.
