Why no Syrian No-Fly Zone

Given that the US and hangers-on have used the obligation to protect civilians as an excuse to oust Gadaffi in Libya, I've been wondering why Syrian civilians aren't the beneficiaries of the same protection. Not to mention Bahrainis, Yemenis and Jordanians.

Sigh. When those governments start bombing their citizens from the air then perhaps the UN will take action.

If this is another "Well Libya has oil!!1!" threads then please just give us all a break and quit now.

That's pretty pathetic. The No Fly Zone is just an expression since the coalition forces are bombing Libyan tanks and other military facilities. If they can destroy any part of the Libyan military for attacking civilians the excuse that the Syrians aren't using their airforce doesn't wash.

I believe Syria also has oil.

The No-Fly zone was implemented because Gaddafi was using jets to attack protesters and rebels. By taking out his airforce capability they got rid of Gaddafi's most terrifying weapon and also allowed them access to the airspace to destroy artillery positions and tanks. There is in essence no other reason to it. I don't see the Jordanian or Syrian governments killing their citizens left right and center so there's no need.

    OK, question is:

    Why isn't there an NFZ

    Answer provided by Blaas.

There's currently no need for one.

    End of. Locking.
