Hate my Job

I'm working in a job that I absolutely hate and hate my boss. He's a real prick and is treating me like ****. I constantly have to bite my tongue and have to restrain my self from giving him a piece of my mind. He basically spends the day barking orders at me and shouting and questioning everything I do. I'm afraid some day I'll just lose it with him and hit him or something.
But I also hate what it is I do, but it's all I've done since I left school. I don't know how I've lasted doing it for so long but for the last couple of years people are telling me I should be happy to have a job.
Everyone keeps telling me to stick with it and everything but it's messing with my head.
On Sunday its all I can think about is another 5 days of hell. I get really stressed and full of anxiety then in the evening. Even during the week in the evenings I begin to feel **** again.
I really don't know what to do!!!

Do a course/degree in something you do like? You only have one life. Why waste it doing something you hate?

I was in a similar position a few years ago. I used to work as a lab assistant. Mind numbingly boring pointless work and the people I worked with made it ten times worse. I hated every minute of it. I always wanted to go to college and do something meaningful. I eventually sorted out a few things a left my job and went to college. Changed my life really. I know the feeling of absolutely dreading work. Now I look forward to going into college. While I was working this dead end job I started some volunteer work and did courses in the evenings.
A good start to changing your situation is to look at what would make you happy. Do some research and see what's practical. I did a PLC course before committing to university. Maybe you could do a part time course in an area your interested in. Then when your sure of the path you want to take you can start to make plans to leave your job and pursue what you really want to be doing.
Life is way too sort to spend it working a job you hate.

Look at what kind of night/evening courses might be available to you OP, or check out www.openuniversity.com to see what kind of courses you could do at your own pace by distance learning.

The problem when we hate our jobs is that we can't see any chance of things improving. So, as you've described, when we think of work, we feel dread and anticipate problems.

Check out your options, see what you might make in other jobs. Take a good long look at your experience to date, you say you've been doing the same job for years well that must mean you have a lot of experience in certain types of work. Identify that experience, see what kinds of jobs you might be able to get with it. And see what options you might have if you combined your experience with a qualification you could enjoy pursuing.

    Good luck OP.

Been there myself, OP. As others have said, study at night. Try to switch off once you leave the office.

Have you tried looking around for another job as it is? You've got an advantage over other jobseekers in that you're already in a job and you've built up plenty of experience. Also, the advice the others gave about upskilling or retraining is good. Best of luck :)

Thanks for all the advice, I think i'll have to do something fast.
Tonight the thought of tomorrow is just torture. My Dad says lots of people hate their jobs but I think mine is making me a bit depressed. I have so much anxiety at the moment.
I think im going to have to find a job soon that I like. I don't care if it doesnt pay well, I just hate this feeling.
    Thanks again.

I was in a similar situation, just started applying for everything that interested me, got something totally different and love it. Go for it.

Im in the same boat as you. Hate my job, its going nowhere, and i feel managment are looking to get rid of my team and i to further their outsourcing effort.

Iwas very bitter about it for a long time, losing sleep about it, brooding about it and putting myself into a dark place.

I got tired of this and decided to take action.

I know my job is now dead end, so instead of trying to impress managment that dont care, i am now doing the bare minimium and nothing more. I do my job, but they are not getting any extra effort from me.

I see it as a necessary evil to pay the bills. And I am actively searching for a new job. its always easier to get a job when you have a job.

Im not saying i still dont get down about it, but i force myself to realize that this is only a temporary situation, and when i get a new job it will be much better.

My advice, get a plan as to how you are going to pull yourself out of the situation. If you know you are working on resolving the issue, you will be much happier as you know there will eventually be an end point to the misery of that job.

    best of luck!
