PA systems

I have no clue about this stuff. I'm looking for a PA system which could cover a mic and an acoustic guitar. So if I was to play medium sized pub gigs, this would be all I'd need. Preferably it would be around 300 euro. Can anyone point me in the right direction or tell me what it is I should be looking for?
    Thanks.

300 nicker is not going to get much really. A decent desk second hand would cost nearly that alone. A desk, power amp, 2 top speakers, mics, stands, leads. Hard to see a solution with €300.

Hi darren, fair enough but I mean excluding mics, stands leads and all that. I'm talking about the system itself. I don't know how much you know about this but could you explain to me exactly what the power amp and 2 speakers are for? (other than the obvious, of course). Also the desk you mentioned, would that be the most important part?

Assuming you need a pair of speakers for the guitar and vocals. If the are not powered speakers, you need to power them with a standalone power amp or a mixing desk that has a power amp built in (powerdesk).

    Is it something like this?

That's not a half bad system for just guitar and vocals.

I believe Ultrasound makes a monitor that does what you want, but to get a decent reliable PA you are gonna spend a lot of money. You can use them to amplify a guitar amp. You just stick a mic in front of the amp and run it through the PA amp.:)

I got a 150w PA in K'n'B music, in Maynooth. Its just a 5 channel simple mixer and two 150w speakers.
I use it just for practice with the band, I only put mics through it.
