    Guys,

does this ever need replacing? my car is on 130k and never had the fuel pump done.. was at a ford dealer in scotland and was quoted 500 pounds for installing a pump, and the brake hoses in the rear (both sides), the hoses that attach to the steel pipes.

    crazy money.

the guy said fuel pumps dont normally need changing as they are enclosed in the fuel tank. ?

I had other cars and had fuel pumps done...?

another indy guy also said fuel pumps dont normally need to be done in the life of the car (for the mondeo anyway).

Is the car not starting ? What prompted him to quote you for a fuel pump?

Nah, its starting alright... my brother suggested I get the pump done, as its on 130k.

Sometimes it takes a few turns to tick over, mostly when cold. Apart from that its fine.

The brake hoses at the back do need to be done however, as they are a bit frayed... i will get a local indy do do that sometime..

ford dealers are some rip off, the fuel pump he quoted me was 180 sterling ish...

ONLy get it done if it fails, slow start when cold could be the fuel filter being a bit crudey and taking a bit to prime after drying out overnight.

Go with the cheaper option first, fuel filter. I changed mine today and there appears to be a much more positive pull through the gears now.

filter was changed quite recently, its on the service book....
will check exact milage tomorrow, cant be assed to go outside now.

side note: can get some tasty mondeo ghia x editions here, some yoke... rare as hens teeth, just a few in the whole of the uk.

Fuel pumps are not a service item. They can fail of course but if you were going to change them in case they fail where would you stop, alternator? pistons?
